4500 peak but only 3500running.

It's like the same guys that rate family walkie talkies with a 40 mile range are back at it.

Yep. You need to read the fine print. 4500 peak with new oil for 100ms when it first start.

And walkie talkie is 40 mile range on a flat, parallel, low elevation surface of the moon where there is no interference.

There is an option with remote start for $499, but it's offered by some sketchy Chinese "just launched" seller that is not Prime

With generators it's far more than a marketing term. Things that start up pull temporarily far more power than they use, so the peak rating can be as important as the continuous rating when it comes to generators.

Champion's smaller 2000 vs 2500 generators for example have basically the same continuous power but you pay more to get the 2500 since it presumably has extra capacitors to help it supply that extra 500 peak load. If continuous load is all that matters then settle for the cheaper one but if you're trying to start up a heavy duty furnace fan or fridge that extra peak sure is nice.

It's pertinent to things like RV air conditioners, which is one of this unit's primary usage cases. Things with motors and especially compressors, like air compressors or AC units have a peak initial amp draw then stabilize. You would appreciate the 1000W peak starting for example if you were in your RV running one AC and the second one kicked on, or were running the microwave when the AC turns on etc.

If noise level isn't a concern and the extra 500W peak watts aren't needed then I'd recommend the GN400i which goes for $243 less (tax-free as well) directly from Wen. It's noisy (67dB) but 2/3 the weight and the same running watts; it saved my butt keeping our fridge, upright freezer, chest freezer, electronics and sump pump running during an extended outage this past summer.

GN400i for $243, where do you see that? Have a link? On their site it's 394.

I think he meant at $394, the Wen price is $243 less than this one is. If you just want regular lawn mower volume open frame inverter generator to make clean power and don't care about any bells and whistles it's probably your best bet. I really like this suitcase form factor in generators and the quietest inverter I can get. If you only ever plan on using at the house in emergencies it's not a great help. It depends on what you're going to do with it.

Sorry to bother you but what does this " If you only ever plan on using at the house in emergencies it's not a great help. " mean ? I really do only need one for emergencies (sump pump and fridge) so this is probably overkill but was trying to figure out what part was not a great help. Thank you.

I meant the mobility in the enclosed form factor, the wheels and the case etc, is only really worth the extra money if you are actually using it and moving it around a lot. If it's only going to be used at home for emergencies you don't really need to pay extra for that mobility. Might as well save the money and get the WEN in that case.

I own one of the dual fuel (can also use propane) versions of this same one. It seems to be a good generator and is relatively quiet. I paid $875 for that and I think it's over $1000 now, so if you only plan to use gasoline, I think this is a pretty good deal. Dark Winter is coming, so better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Why is the electric start version over twice the price? Crazy price difference.
