I ordered one last time this came on sale and returned it immediately. The glass felt way too light and thin. My two cents, spend the extra money and get a Chemex
I'd imagine it's the same food-grade plastic as most other coffee makers on the market. Plus from my experience it's really the mesh that has the biggest residual impact on the coffee flavor, although you can always swap filters to suit your preferences
I have the smaller version of this. I use it every day at work. Two complaints:
(1) the mesh filter isn't fine enough and lets the water through too quickly. So, even though it has the mesh filter I still use a paper filter as well.
(2) between the black plastic filter and the big cork handle on the glass it's hard to tell how full the carafe is. It's very easy to misjudge and have coffee start spilling on the table because you've overfilled.

I believe the black band version was as cheap as $16.70 a little over a year ago.

How can it be both 32ounce and 8 cups?
I have black walled one that is single glass and thin. Works great, have had it for years. Got it in late 2018 for $13.

It can't be 8 cups and 32oz. That's not possible unless you have 4oz cups.
