Can't you just reinstall a clean Windows? Oh, the article is 4 years old.
The integrated graphics are better on the i5.
Here is what happened last week. Target had an i3 HP 15 laptop on special for $339.99 - https://www.target.com/p/hp-15-6-34-laptop-with-windows-home-in-s-mode-intel-core-i3-11th-gen-proces... [target.com] . (It is now priced at $429.99 as the deal is over.) Walmart had posted in advance the deal on the i3 (not the one the subject of this thread) that is taking place this week for $279 - https://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-15-.../416132914 . The i3 in the Walmart was not the same as the i3 in the Target (i3-1115G4 vs i3-1125G4), still many folks were able to get Target to price match the Walmart model and get $60 back off of the $339.99 price. Others were not successful doing this. In any event, the Target deal is over now.

CPU BENCHMARK SCORES:

i3-1125G4: 10095

i5-1135G7: 10179
Better GPU in the i5 though, for apps such as video editing, etc.

If the WM laptop is eligible to run Windows 11 is that really a meaningful difference?

Also are you referencing the HP specifications page regarding the HDMI port? I saw in another thread where a port documented by HP as 1.4b was actually confirmed as 2.0 by someone else in the thread. That led me to believe that at some point HP simply updated the laptops without changing the documentation (perhaps an upside to all the latest parts shortages?).

Of all these distinctions, without a doubt the biggest one you've identified by far is the IPS vs. non-IPS screen.

Good luck!
Jon
Actually, some inferior IPS screens is worse than TN.

I have both the target i3 and the walmart i5 laptops. The walmart laptop doesn't have backlit keyboard and is missing the finger print reader. Trying to see if the i5 gaming performance is better than the i3. For everyday tasks I don't think the difference between i3 and i5 matters much although I did find the i5 a bit zippy.
Please let us know how your gaming test turned out. I just bought the i5 for a 13 year old running fortnite and Minecraft and maybe a few other local games. Hoping it will suffice for that.

IPS definitely doesn't equate to perfect! I've linked in some other threads to a review of another HP with what is likely a comparable 250 nits IPS panel. Worth taking a peek: https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-...218.0.html

Good luck!

Is RAM can be upgraded on this WM $379 laptop, if so do we need to buy two sticks of same memory?

This deal is not dead (at least for local pickup where available), why is it closed?

Those here thinking of RAM and/or SSD upgrades may get some ideas here:

and here:

To add a second SSD it seems that a ribbon cable adapter may be needed.

There are probably more similar videos.

Chime in if someone here has done any of these, and how to get the cable for adding a 2nd SSD.

So first impressions, for a $380 laptop the screen isn't bad. It can do what I need it to do production wise (emails, office, VPN/RDP into work). Haven't tried anything intensive, or tried the battery (it's been always plugged in so far).

The key lettering SUCKS. Silver keys with dark gray writing is not ideal. If you're on top of the keys, it looks somewhat ok. But at any angle and you can barely see the lettering. Ridiculous.

Can you please confirm if this has an IPS display?

I don't know how to confirm, but based on viewing angles I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Got the laptop yesterday. Not an IPS display; all my other ones are and the difference is rather obvious. Also, the keyboard lettering is crap; I'm thinking about slapping something like this on the keys - https://www.amazon.com/Universal-...B07CG2RVMZ
I am happy with the performance but construction is meh... typical of budget line. Since I am only going to be using it at the house it'll do just fine for me.

Got this yesterday. I wanted to keep it , but I'm returning it because of the poor display. Poor angles and washed out colors.

I ordered mine Wednesday night, was supposed to be delivered from my local store today. The %$^# delivery driver stole it! She parked across the street, took the box out, took a picture of it in the grass, got back in the car & drove off without delivering it. Got it on security camera. So freaking ticked!
I got a refund but I need the laptop!

I am returning this laptop tomorrow. Very poor quality build, looks very cheap, TN panel with horrible viewing angles, keys are with grey font letters on silver background(so dumb!), weird power button. Never again am I touching an entry level HP. My son's $300 Lenovo from last year BF deal is better in all regards (except for processor).
Also very disappointed that it takes about 40 min to set up the laptop. There are mandatory updates/installations during which you cannot do anything. Are all new Win 11 laptops coming like that? What a waste of time.
