I went back over the carpet with my dyson and the dyson wasn't able to get much more out of it. I thought that was pretty impressive. The roomba gets about 90% of what I can get with the Dyson, some of that is due to suction and some of it is due to slightly better coverage. But the key thing is that the roomba does it with 99% less labor. Not to mention, that extra 10% is not usually noticeable to the human eye. So, the tradeoff for very frequent cleaning was well worth it to me. I love walking through a room and seeing or feeling some grit on the floor and asking Alexa to send the roomba to clean that room -- that's so much easier than pulling out a vacuum and doing it yourself.
That said, I bought the i7+ for $550 instead of dropping $850 on the j7+. There's one less camera and no AI on the i7, so the runtime is actually a little longer. But, you have to manually set where you have cords and other things that it might get stuck on. Still, that extra 5 minutes in setup was well worth saving $300 and getting a little longer runtime.
The key thing for me was that a robot vacuum is now another home "appliance" that I can't imagine not having... the same way I wouldn't give up my dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer.

Anyone have guesses if it'll go on sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday?
Edit: It's back down to $700! Woo! Got it for $560 with my personal coupon.

The coupon was part of Amazon wedding registry [amazon.com]. I got married recently and if your guests buy enough stuff from Amazon, they give you a 20% coupon (max $300 discount) for one order. It's cool. The only downside is that the product has to be sold by Amazon. I was gonna get a Roborock S7+ (on sale right now for $720) but it's not "Sold By: Amazon.com".
