I tested this before release. It was pretty cool and it did actually get better at avoiding things like wires and shoe strings as time went on. Wife and I both want one but even at $700 I can't bring myself to spend that much for something that still requires you to use a real vacuum on carpet. It does alright on other surfaces. Also, this dock is ungodly loud.

When you go to the site now, the 699 appears briefly, but then changes to 849.99 when the site finishes loading.

Just a heads up, no Lidar, and rubber roller (doesn't last as long as brush ones)

I was also on the Beta and I have a different perspective on how well it worked on my carpet (shag and pile).

I went back over the carpet with my dyson and the dyson wasn't able to get much more out of it. I thought that was pretty impressive. The roomba gets about 90% of what I can get with the Dyson, some of that is due to suction and some of it is due to slightly better coverage. But the key thing is that the roomba does it with 99% less labor. Not to mention, that extra 10% is not usually noticeable to the human eye. So, the tradeoff for very frequent cleaning was well worth it to me. I love walking through a room and seeing or feeling some grit on the floor and asking Alexa to send the roomba to clean that room -- that's so much easier than pulling out a vacuum and doing it yourself.

That said, I bought the i7+ for $550 instead of dropping $850 on the j7+. There's one less camera and no AI on the i7, so the runtime is actually a little longer. But, you have to manually set where you have cords and other things that it might get stuck on. Still, that extra 5 minutes in setup was well worth saving $300 and getting a little longer runtime.

The key thing for me was that a robot vacuum is now another home "appliance" that I can't imagine not having... the same way I wouldn't give up my dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer.

You could also get the J7 which is the same vacuum without the auto trash bin. Few mins work once or twice a week, but saves close to $250.

Really hoping this goes back on sale on Amazon. I have a coupon code that I'd want to buy it with. This one is excluded from coupons at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Anyone have guesses if it'll go on sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday?

Edit: It's back down to $700! Woo! Got it for $560 with my personal coupon.

Yeah it's back at $850 when I check now. Weird. I would suggest checking throughout the day. It was $700 for me around 3am UTC.

The coupon was part of Amazon wedding registry [amazon.com]. I got married recently and if your guests buy enough stuff from Amazon, they give you a 20% coupon (max $300 discount) for one order. It's cool. The only downside is that the product has to be sold by Amazon. I was gonna get a Roborock S7+ (on sale right now for $720) but it's not "Sold By: Amazon.com".
