I like to think that my continual whining about this and pointing out that Lowe's does it, is directly responsible for this change. You're all very welcome.
Yep, you were the reason. All hail the king!!

how do I get the military discount if I was never in the military?
They should be able to help you at your local recruiting office.

Well you have $400 you didn't before. Why whine?
I think you missed the point. There used to be no limit on discount. Now there is a hard $400 limit per year.

I still continue to shop at Lowes and prefer it over HD. Less restrictions, stores seem cleaner, and their 10% applies to almost all on sale items whereas HD does not.

I only shop at HD for the ridiculously lucky YMMV clearance items now.

$400 will cover 95% of their military customers. They don't want people abusing the discount and businesses like drop shoppers abusing it. A hard limit of $400 is more than fair. $500 woulda been better.

Epic! Thanks for the PSA!

Not sure if this is new but kinda sucks...but don't blame Home Depot either because they don't have to offer a discount at all:
"The Military Discount applies 10% off the price of select in-stock purchases made by eligible participants:
Eligible participants receive a $400 maximum annual discount which resets each calendar year."

Edit, I see a few comments of other people mentioning the same thing.

They (HD) also won't allow tax exempt along with military discount as if would take a hit on tax exempt and assume military members can't own businesses... Lowe's allows military discounts & tax exemption.
Lowes does not do everything. Some sale items/clearance items aren't eligible. At least, online.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the military discount is for personal use and most people with a tax exemption are using it for business purposes. I don't blame Home Depot for not extending the military discount to a clearly commercial account.
