It's actually a pretty nice feature. It uses pixie dust made exclusively by Tinker Bell. So with its magical powers, it attaches to the dust and makes it fly away from your house. The Roomba uses a different approach involving particle acceleration, which is more reliable but much more expensive.
I prefer the shark one because it is of a trusted american brand based in massachusetts, SharkNinja (the same company which makes Ninja cooking utencils and appliances). I prefer brands which you can actually contact for support. Shark also sells the spare parts for this vacuum. https://www.sharkclean.com/parts-...elf-empty/
The ihome one has lidar, but the shark one has two front brushes as well, so it has a wider range of cleaning.
Personally, I don't think mapping is that big of a deal and I don't mind robot vacs which bump around pathetically. A robot vac which takes 1hr to clean a room is still better than me not picking up a broom for weeks.
Self-Empty Base ??
I understand the unit being self-empty, it would empty into the base..... but how does the base self-empties??

For budget models, I think the Arnagar S8 Pro on Amazon is the best, if you can be patient and wait for coupon, which I am sure will happen in the next couple of weeks. I picked it up for $259 earlier this year. It's so much better than the iHome and definitely tons better than Shark.
If you have a little more $, get the Roborock S6 MaxV, on sale now for around 450.
Can you virtually block off rooms or areas you don't want it to go, like the Neato? Just wondering because there are times I don't want it doing certain areas. Thanks.
I have a Shark with a different model (something IQ) and it does let you. Their app kind of sucks though, constantly requires you to log into it for some reason and their mapping isn't as good as Neato. It does let you do virtual zones though it's kind of imprecise so you have to tweak it a lot to get it right. I like that it lets you select individual rooms to vacuum, something my older neato botvac connected (gen1) can't.
Just wanted to share that I saw this deal earlier and thought nothing of it, but scrolling through this time, the thumbnail caught my eye and I thought for a brief second that this was for some sort of futuristic looking toilet. 😂

Trust me,😊 get extended warranties. I just got the battery on my neato botvac connected replaced after three years using square trade, battery is $100, definitely worth it.

I have this. It is much quieter than my iRobot 980 - quiet enough that I can still have conversations around it, and there isn't an incessant high-pitched whine.
The only distance between you and a robot baby that gets stuck all the time is the mapping tech of the robot, which usually breaks down to 1) robot AI, 2) having LIDAR/Camera, and 3) Map storage and no go zone.
Roomba 960/980, for example, are older camera robots which camera has more limitations than LIDAR, and they have no maps or zoning tech (their later robots do), but they still do pretty well because iRobat has very solid robot AI tech that compensate for it and has longer experience making robots than most other companies. But having LIDAR doesn't automatically means its better; nowadays there are so many trash LIDAR robots on the market with random names like Rove or whatever. Yes, sometimes they have LIDAR and no go zone, which honestly are their only saving grace, because outside of that their AI are generally absolute garbage and they will be horrible robots if not for the availability of their map and zoning tech.
Roborock on the other hand, generally does really well on all of those features, but I have heard their customer support isn't their strongest front and it's best if you are prepared to do a little bit of robot DIY repairing. Also, they can be pricey depending on how much you want the robot to do. Just vacuum? Do you have hardfloor and want it to mop? a lot of mop and need a bigger water tank? do more than just dragging wet cloth across the room with their new agigtation mop tech? etc.
Nevertheless. You much rather save up and wait patiently for a good robot that can hold its own. Get a good robot, unless you really don't mind babysitting a vacuum robot over and over.
