Big lumber store sometimes sell precut 2x4s, might find sizes to work, otherwise, plan it our and have them make the cuts.
Not sure about Lowes, but Home Depot does the first cut free for each piece of wood and then .50 each additional cut. They pretty nice about it most of the times as long you you know what you need cut/lengths, etc. Have it all down already so you just give it to them. Most of the time, they don't even mark down the extra cuts.

Good price. I probably would not attach the hutch to it because I would want casters for feeding material and other applications. If you make the legs yourself out of wood, with (2) 2x4 and (2) 2x6, you would spend $25 with the screws. Add the cost of lumber: frame and 3/4 in ply, expect to add another $80-$100 in material. Still beats the $500 + price tag at your local big box store.

Even at this discount, it seems like a lot for some plastic.

Really cool diy kit. Make the work bench as big or as small as you want. I have one and I strongly recommend it. The legs make this bench solid. Holes already made. Its really cool if you like diy stuff. Me and my dad built our together. It was a gr8 bonding experience.

I used this set to build a 4'x4' table for a cnc. Its solid and lets you get a bench together in about an hr including cuts. The one thing I'll say is when driving the screws, dont drive too deep your you can blow your screw right through the plasitc in the leg. I paid $60 and thought that was plenty fair for what it is. This is a good price.
I'm looking for something for exactly this purpose

Most of the 2x4s at the stores is bowed or not flat. How do I get around this? Will it affect my build?
I've never used this so i can't say if the bowing will affect the build but...

If you spend some time looking through the boards at the store i guarantee there are some straighter boards.
Alternatively you can get lumber that is planed and jointed to have 4 straight faces. Its more expensive though. You can find that by the trim boards in HD probably similar place in Lowes.

This thing is great. Installed it earlier this year. I suggest looking at customer photos in reviews and their website for ideas.

For the top, I used thick plywood for a 30" deep by 8ft table with no problems. Thinner plywood for bottom shelves.

Instead of plywood also look into melamine for the top. That or a layer of 1/2 pvc board.
Melamine is great if you do a lot of wood gluing. It scrapes right off

no, but at 4'x4' I have a 2x4 going diagonal across the middle to provide support. They recommend this in their instructions and it worked well for me. You have to make sure that the 2x4s you use for the top section dont have bows in them themselves or that will translate to the top. I put 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood on top of eachother for my top to help make sure it stays flat. Then for the two shelves on the bottom, i just used 1 piece of plywood for each without the 2x4 going across.

It's great for that use and the two shelves on the bottom are perfect for storing your wood/materials/dust boot, etc.
