True to form you're dishing out more false statements. Dude I've been on slickdeals way longer than you have. If you have a factual based comment about the product then by all means. Your comments add no value to the thread. I actually like the idea of a no wire thermometer, just don't know if I want to deal with the range issues or even attampt the work around. But that's just my opinion

i guess they've fixed it since. the google play listing indicates they just removed location access for android 12.
When I checked location was part of the required permissions for Android devices.

I love how you guys commenting on how great this deal is and how you can't believe it's not getting attention are new accounts… do you think consumers are that gullible?

Range is a big deal though (especially with bbqs/smokers) and in my opinion, makes Wi-Fi BBQ thermometers far superior. Additionally you generally want more than just one probe for larger cuts. Also Wi-Fi simplifies integration with things like Alexa.

In my opinion, this is an okay deal, but it's a fairly competitive market and there are better solutions out there at a similar price point that may be a better fit for some people.
I agree. Wifi is better. While this is a sexy product, it's not as good as the fire board which I have and like better.

I'm one of those with the $18 thermometer and do simple weekend smokes. Would the fireboard justify the cost or would something like this be worth it for basic smokes in a kamado?

i think location was required in order to scan wifi networks, and possibly android 12 removed that requirement.

It depends on your use case. I generally smoke over night and don't stay up. I like the wifi thermometer because I can get access up to my bedroom. I can also run out and do an errand and keep an eye on it. Fireboard has a good app and can alert me to issues like a flame out, flare up, or meat done before I expected. I also have a cheaper ink bird one that I use at my cabin. In fact I am using it tonight for a brisket. Their app is okay but doesn't work as well. Setting alarms is more difficult. Their app ecosystem is also confusing as I own several of their products and they use different apps but sometimes the same.

According to APPTION Labs, Google requires location for using Bluetooth. I personally don't care and force stop most apps once I'm done with them.

Yes and at 3X the price. Not really apples to apples is it?
I never said it was, but If you're going by number of probes the Fireboard is cheaper.

You can buy a piece of crap that will give you lots of issues, not just on range, that have existed since it got funded on kickstarter

or

You can pay a little over double the price for more options, more probe ability, and better reliability.

I rarely do brisket as those smokes are also overnight for me. But if those longer smokes were a little more frequent I'd probably dish out some money for a quality thermometer.

For quicker smokes like ribs or chicken I think this thermometer would work. Still on the fence about it though.

Does anyone actually own this and can comment on it?

Hard to tell where the real comments are coming from in this thread

This has been a train wreck product since it was released on kickstarter. It never came close to expectations. Please look a different direction as you should not have to "rig" a $100 device to work marginally at best.

After looking through reviews I plan on going with the fireboard.

Anyone know if fireboard normally offers blackfriday discounts?

Where this product shines is the niche use case where you are cooking on a rotisserie that spins... Where obviously wires is not your friend.

With that said, I would highly recommend a Fireboard (if your budget allows) or the inkbird over this...

Fireboard is ideal if you think later on down the line you want to add a fan blower for setting temperatures.
