Just don't turn on the Multi User experimental feature in settings. In the latest firmware v34, it is now giving you an error when you try to run the same app at the same time on a single account. Even for games that explicitly allow you to do this.

Hope they fix it as for now it has ruined my 4-player Walkabout Mini Golf plans. We're already done it before, but v34 will break it if you turn on that setting, even once, and then turn it off again.

Nothing beats the deal from Costco last year. Also, what is "advanced" about this one?

had oculus quest v1 and tried the 2 at a family members house… still sucks in comfort and that the deal breaker to me.. played most of alyx which is truly amazing but didn't even finish it. went back to switch and traditional… also tried the wireless feature for pc hookup (steamVr) but was god awful laggy …

on my older quest virtual desktop was pretty great.
You likely have incorrect settings or you're using the wrong wireless channel on your router. Have you looked into this?

Can you buy just for the $50 GC and then return the unused VR headset? Or do they split the deal across the line items so you cannot do that?

Not until next year.

This is more likely (supposedly they are already not making money on these) an attempt to get the Quest 2 in the hands of more people thus spurring development of more apps. If the app/game devs cannot make enough money to justify making games/apps for VR then VR will fail. The most headsets, the more profit made and the VR community grows.

Most companies do not have the deep pockets to lose money on a venture like this. Sony/Microsoft does the same thing with their consoles. Loss leaders used to boost people into buying the consoles so they can make money on the software fees.

I hate Facebook with all my heart but I wonder how long Oculus could have continued without the deep pockets of Facebook in order to keep selling VR at either break even or a loss. There is not currently enough fees for the few million owners to generate enough profit off of fees alone to justify the huge cost in producing these things as well as development.

You have to understand that until the Quest 2 came along, the next non Quest headset was almost twice the price. This is only cheap to get people to buy them and increase market share... not a closeout sale or a failed product they are trying to get rid of.
I would definitely buy if the price was cheaper. Even with a $50 gift card, I still dont want to bit. The price needs to drop to $200 for me to feel comfortable buying it.

There's always going to be something better coming down the road, but this is a very solid deal still.

This is still relatively new (October 13, 2020 release date) and this is a recent update to the memory (they updated the base model from 64GB to 128GB in late August 2021).

Facebook knows people don't want to link their FB accounts to it, so they subsidize the cost (I believe the version which doesn't require a FB account sells for $600-800), and this one includes the headset and 2 controllers, plus a $50 gift card to sweeten the deal.

There have been rumors of a "pro" version for months, but no real announcements.

I bought the 256GB model of this last year and have still been very happy with it.
It works natively with it's own games (no computer required) and can connect (via cable or wifi) to run PC games if your PC is capable of running them.

Coming from the PSVR (on a PS4 pro) and the oculus go, I found this to be a very nice upgrade since it's totally tether-free, and I'd have no problems buying the next gen version when the time comes.

I'd also suspect that even if a new version was announced next year, you can sell this for at least $200

How times have changed.. I remember when these were being scalped for almost twice as much and for the (discontinued) 64GB model.

I was considering this, but with all the reports of bricking w/out support, I am very hesitant.

And replaced with what, a Meta account that harvests your same data? I think this is a case where we need to wait and see what its replaced with before we start selling Meta as an improvement.

Considering the current state of the world economy and that new models will most likely not be out for at least a year, I would jump on this. Anything new and/or better is going to cost more. They are already losing money on these at this price in the hope they make up for it with you buying games/apps.

The Quest 2 has only been out a year and at $250 it's a steal IMHO. Now, of course, I cannot predict the future but one year ago today, these things were $300 and only had 64gb of storage (128gb now) so it has twice the storage and $50 less.
