If you end up using it a LOT, and are willing to do some work, you can buy a CGA 320 adapter cable from ebay for connecting a bigger food grade co2 tank (obviously need to buy this too - and it's pricy)... and as needed, just take that to wherever your local homebrew place refills theirs. I use mine quite a fair bit personally though, and don't use any of the flavorings.

Sure wish Sodastream sold their pepsi/coke flavorings in the US though...

Edit: To be clear, I am not recommending you refill your food-grade co2 tank *at* a homebrew place... Only to ask them where they refill theirs. My local place said they refill theirs at a fire and safety testing place, so I took mine there too

I get my CGA320 tanks from a commercial gas supplier, the same type of places that supply restaurants. Depending on your location, that might be easier and/or cheaper than homebrew stores.

I have one of the old Sodastream models with the screw on mechanism, and anyway that's exactly what I did - got a 20lbs CO2 tank with the adapter cable. No need to worry anymore about refills, it's great.

Is the adapter to refill their bottles or to connect directly to the machine?

To connect your larger CO2 tank to the soda stream. It's worth it, cuts cost down significantly if you use it daily.
