The 4k fire stick max is comparable with the cube. $80 for 2019 hardware is not a good deal imo. It has a faster processor than the 4k max stick, but the 4k max stick is also only $35 and includes the Gen 3 remote. I think if you're looking to get an Alexa, then it makes sense to get the cube. Though during Xmas and BF, Amazon loves to bundles echo shows and dots and practically free. I still have a few dots from last year that I haven't opened.

They need to fresh the cube with better hardware specs.
I'll be staying away from the cube probably forever. I had version one. It was an epic fail. A $25 fire stick was better. Very sad.

is there anything like a smart tv or firetv that doesn't blast my face with ads all day?
Apple TV 4K

Take a look at an example [lifewire.com] of how your homescreen would look - keep in mind you choose the order of the apps and can create folders with specific apps inside (News/Sports etc)

Can be had for $80-100, most recently on sale for $125 (at that point would buy Gen 2 from Costco at $170)

https://urlhasbeenblocked/2021/10...v-4k-sale/

Go to Facebook Marketplace and find one for $75 - did that for my TV in the den.

At $80, this is NOT a slickdeal, this is way too close to the price of the 1st gen Apple TV 4K which blows this Cube out the water in terms of speed, clean UI, and ease of use.

If you must have an Amazon device the Firestick 4K Max at $35 is a far better deal.

Let the hate commence but these are the facts

I have the Apple TV 4K and if it blows this out of the water in terms of speed then I'll definitely stay away from this. I detest using the Apple TV remote, the garbage way moonlight runs on it, and it's definitely not all that quick in my experience.

I'm not advocating for this device, my fire sticks have all been very disappointing in the past as well. The only real one I have found to be consistently good is the nVidia Shield.

The little cheap Onn TV android box isn't too bad, but it's not too snappy either.

The fire stick max has an incredibly slower soc so it's interesting to me that you're advocating for it so much. I'm interested to know a little more from your perspective.

Is it worth it to get the new remote (Gen 3) over the old one?

BBY has the Cube with Gen 2 remote for 20% off. No trade-in is required. I can keep my 3rd gen fire TV for use elsewhere or resale.

For the Gen 3 remote, the best deal seems to be this one but requires a trade-in. Worth it from a functionality perspective?
I'm a bit confused by what you're saying here. The cube with the new remote is also $79.99 which is the same price.

It feels like a lot of you haven't even bothered looking up the comparison charts that show all the fire devices running various benchmark programs. The Fire Cube 2 is only bested by the Shield Pro. The Firestick Max 4k comes in notably behind the Fire Cube 2. It may be a bit closer in real world performance, but my guess is that the Cube 2 is likely still the clear winner. Still, if you get the Max for less than half the price, that's tough to argue with.

Who needs a gen 3 remote? Netflix and Hulu buttons? Those are preloaded on a smart tv no need to load them onto a cube or fire stick and take up space…just saying

I was originally a big fan of the Fire TV cube when it first came out, but as time has gone by, I've come to hate them. I use the Viki app to watch Korean/Chinese dramas and regardless of which Cube I'm using in the house, it will freeze during one of the commercials, so I have to go to the home page and restart the Viki app. There have also been issues with the Netflix app where it won't play; it acts like Netflix will start, but it goes back to the Prime home screen. I got sick and tired of having to deal with all of the problems, so I replaced all the cubes with Roku Ultras and I haven't had any issues. Just my 2 cents.

So fire cube tv, two echos, and an echo sub in home theater mode is pretty magical. I don't even turn on my expensive klipsch full height towers anymore…so convenient

Have the Fire Stick 4K and menu can be sluggish at times, definitely better than the HD sticks though. Seems like the Fire Cube 2 is getting much better speed benchmarks, can anyone comment if menu's are snappier?

The included IR extender for this device allows you to control non-smart devices to some degrees. That and if I remember correctly, you could set u your own apps for this device, which is why I am buying this over other streaming devices. Just FYI.

Here's the benchmarks for the cube compared to the other FireTv products :

https://i0.wp.com/www.aftvnews.co...=100&ssl=1

The main draw is to sideload apps and it is second only to the nVidia Shield which is double the price.

I'm sure the ram on the stick is half the ram in the cube. More ram lessens the chances of freezing. Always get the most ram available on these streaming devices.

Agree, also just read one of the Amazon reviews and someone said getting the cube resulted in a snappier interface likely due to the faster processor (octa core) vs the 4K stick. Worth the extra $ imo.
