Synology NAS are especially good as Apple Time Capsule backup device replacement and I've installed lots of these for that purpose.

IMO this model is too slow for anything else.

NAS with 2 bays is always better than a single bay (Having a single drive is just begging for data loss).

This will work great for anyone who doesn't need docker or the transcoding (Plex, Emby)

Why? 220+ is faster? Can this handle plex 4K files?

Just depends on your needs. Will you use the faster CPU or the additional RAM? Will you run a dedicated storage network (aka need the additional port)? If so, yeah, get the 220+. Otherwise, for most home use, the 220J will be fine and is a good deal. They run the same software...

This was $135.99 Nov. 25th, 2020 at B&H. I just use it for music but seems fine. Perfect for my uses. If you are looking for transcoding you have to spend the money for it. The newer OS (DSM7) seems a little bit faster but if you use USB audio dongles and some other quirky, non-core, DSM features you'll lose out if you go to DSM7. It doesn't state which is installed on this one. I assume it ships with DSM6 since 7 only came out officially in the summer.

Edit: Geez sorry, wrong year. It was 2020.

512MB of DDR4 RAM! What is this, a NAS for ants?!

JK, probably fine if you just need a place to store files via a local network

Ram is incredibly weak on this device. Pass. Having several qnap now, I recommend getting only devices with expandable memory. Running one with 32GB and another with 12GB. Having extra ram speeds Raid rebuild, allows running container station with dockers or sync threads running.

Generally, when someone says that, they are going back in time, to better price in the past.

But you put a "new twist" on it. the DATE you gave is using "time machine" to advance in time (about 10 days in future). Smilie

So back to the "future". Smilie
