Picked this up the last time around and really like it. Really solid bedroom TV. On Saturday I was watching the 4K HDR stream of the Oklahoma/Baylor game on FOX and it looked really good. I know it's not a true 4K stream, but the picture quality was great. Yes it doesn't hold a candle to my LG C9, but it's also a quarter of the price. Definitely get a sound bar though.
65" 4K for $300 is a good deal no matter how you slice it, but just FYI, it does look like the model number in the BF ad is slightly different from the one for sale right now. The current TV model is E4FAB65R, while the one in the BF ad is E4FAB65R-T. I don't know anything beyond that, but this is probably a BF-specific model and not getting the $650 TV we see for sale right now.
Great price. Found the user guide and specs from Element. The user guide is over 100 pages so you should be able to find what you want to control the TV. You can use your phone instead of the remote it comes with.

My main TV is a Samsung 50" plasma 720p/1080i non-smart (therefore no lag) bought in 2009. Still has the original picture quality with deep black and good motion. I have had to replace my original Roku and AppleTV but the TV itself is still going strong. How much happier would a new and larger, 4K smart TV really make me?

No VRR? How have you not jumped off a bridge yet? Smilie

Don't look for happiness in a new TV. All you need to do is come back on these forums and realize if you didn't buy an OLED you can't possibly be happy.

And why would my TV need a variable refresh rate? Why not just refresh quickly all the time?

Yes, I think I will probably hold out for an OLED and buy a regular old OLED when the next best thing replaces OLED (in 2029?) That would allow me to amortize that old Samsung down to about $0.10 per day. TVs were sure expensive in 2009 but of a quality that seems to last (especially if you don't have 20/10 vision anymore).

I really wish theyd put a goddamn time on when these things "launch".
For the earlier Nov. 4 deal, it went live at midnight Pacific. So if you're on the east coast, be prepared to set an alarm for a bit before 3AM.

I can't say this with absolute certainty, but I doubt many LED screens today would produce the black levels your plasma will produce. 720p/1080i is very limited though. I think 1080p at the very least is necessary today, unless you watch only live TV. New TVs also have HDR which handle lighting better, so deeper blacks and whiter whites (sort of). I can't say if you'll like the picture quality more because this is a cheap LED TV that will likely have poor contrast, but better resolution and HDR support.

Personally, I'm still using a 1080p display. I see no point in upgrading until OLED becomes less costly. HDR is the only thing I care about as I don't think there is a big difference between 4K and 1080p at the distance I watch TV. However, that means I'd have to get new content like 4K/UHD discs just to take advantage of HDR.

I borrow blu-ray movies from my local library for free, but they don't have 4K discs and I doubt they will any time soon. That means I'd have to borrow movies from elsewhere which isn't cheap or easy to do nowadays. Other option is streaming movies online in 4K/HDR, but is that better picture quality than 1080P blu-ray discs?

The costs would add up too much in so many ways for minor improvements, I'm better off just waiting. I don't think the upgrades in TV tech in the last ten years are as dramatic as the transition from SD to HD. When I saw HD content on demo TVs at Best Buy for the first time, that was mind blowing. All the new stuff like "4K, UDH, HDR" aren't the same level of improvement from non HD to HD. OLED TVs are amazing though and that's what I'm waiting for next.

Netflix crashes on our 65" TCL 615 model which is about 3 years old. Their flagship model and supposedly the Roku Ultra built in. Reset the tv, deleted the app and reinstall, same deal. Very frustrating. Can't even cast Netflix to the set from the phone. Still crashes.
My Roku tv (3 yr old tcl) also crashes frequently in various apps...sometimes reboots the whole tv, others just the app

Use a dedicated streaming device instead of the TV. They do for $20 and will outperform TV based smart interfaces.

Direct lit LED isn't great. Also Roku tv is slow and they're losing support for YouTube apps and possibly Prime Video. Could be remedied with external Android TV box.
