As someone who has a pixel 6 Pro, I highly recommend just getting the 6. It's so much cheaper and the Pro has no features that are worth the pricetag over the non pro. If I could do it again, I'd get the pixel 6.

The phone is big on the hands and quite heavy. Be warned. You'll end up missing smaller phone size of 5.7to 6.2 inch screens

Nova launcher is immensely customizable, and I can't recommend it enough. You can move the stock Pixel launcher elements wherever you want, among MANY other options.

Gotta put this out there, I got my pixel 6 on launch but cases were not in supply. Had to wait almost 2 weeks before I could get one delivered but on day 6 I dropped it from my couch onto vinyl flooring and got a couple scratches on the screen. No cracks but deep enough scratches on the corners which bug me but don't make it unusable. First phone I've ever owned that has scratched so easily especially from a 2ft drop.

So, the Pixel 5a for $399, or the Pixel 6 for $549? Pros and cons anyone?
Google had the 5a for $350 already last week, IIRC. I'm hoping they have it again for BF.

Will I be able to order the phone online or is this price for in-store only?

If only they would "unlock" the horrid fingerprint scanner.

I was excited to go back to a pixel after having and loving the pixel 3, then going to s20 and s21 due to TMobile deals. Got the pixel 6 and it is uncomfortably large. I think the s21 is my size limit 😔
It always take some time getting used to a bigger size. But once you get used to it, there is no going back to smaller*. YMMV of course.

*That's what she said.

Not surprised. When I heard Google "made" the processor I was a skeptic. They never make their own products
That's because Google is not a chip maker. There's only a few companies that actually manufacture chips in the world.

I think the pixel 6 because of the new tensor processor

Even for $600 at Google store, it's a good value. I like it so far. Camera is good but not as incredible as expected (my 3a XL took really good pics so this wasn't that incremental of an improvement). Fingerprint sensor is just slightly annoying enough to complain about, but not bad enough to recommend against the phone. Size wise, it feels smaller than my 3a xl but is definitely heavier. Battery life is pretty good, can easily get 16-24 hours depending on usage. Takes a long time to charge though, so make sure you have a good charger (not included).

Overall it's a great phone and if you are in the android ecosystem, I dont know why to get anything else.

If you're in the apple ecosystem, it's a good phone to switch to but by no means is it a must switch.

Not sure if it's been tried but with my S20, I ended up registering the most use fingerprints twice which helped with picking up my unlocks
From what i have read so far, it's less about accuracy (which can be negated using your suggestion of registering same fingerprint twice) and more about the speed. The fingerprint scanner is slow and takes time to scan and unlock. They are using optical scanner (relatively slower) as opposed to ultrasonic ones that Samsung and some other oems used, which are noticeably faster. So, it's a hardware limitation.

But even then, this is A LOT of phone for $549 and nothing in market beats it in terms of value. People need to take a step back and stop asking for absolute best of everything in their phone that they don't even need or use. This phone is flagship for majority of users considering their usage. People just don't realize that and keep comparing it to $1000 phone which may have one or two things better than this. This phone will shake up the industry as no mid range phones can be worse than this given the price.

Is the fingerprint scan as bad as they say? Any chance of bug fix, or does the optical nature defeat it?

Pros? The 6 is a whole new beast, first processor made by google and finally new camera module. It will take amazing photos and videos.

Cons? Cost more?

Seriously though if anyone was ever in the market for a Pixel this is the one to get hands down. Ill be upgrading even though my 3A is running like new 3 years later.
Not to mention more ram, the processor is astronomically better than the 5/5A processor more, storage. The fingerprint reader is a down side but with the phone just being way better in every single way, this is just a much better purchase should last u a few years longer as far as quality goes too.

I came from a Samsung A71 5G and it's miles ahead of that on screen sensor. However, it is finicky at times and slow to register. 9 out of 10 times it opens quickly and without issue.
