It looks like the cheapest phone is the Samsung A12 for $180, plus the $180 for 12 months of service, for a total price of $360 for the phone and two years of service. The iPhone SE would be $579 including service.

I was using Mint for 3 months for family visiting from overseas. This is a very good deal to keep a line around.

I have been using mint for a few years and it's fine in my area. I have the "unlimited" plan. When 35gb runs out I want to shake babies.

One way to look at the iPhone SE version of the deal is: $579 - $180 for year #1 of service - $180 for "free" year #2 of service = $219 for the iPhone SE.

My wife has an iphone 12 and has to renew her mint service soon.

Would I be able to buy an iphone 11, sell it on swappa/ebay, and then just pocket the extra 12 months of free service?

Did it work overseas? Or did you have to pay for international roaming

Why no love on this (ie: what am I missing?)

For the N200: $420 for the phone and 2 years of 4gb service. Since the usual deal is 3 months free, I'd account for 21 months of service at $15 = $315. That makes the phone $105, which is $239 on Amazon right now. Seems like a reasonably good deal.

Is there something I'm missing? Better deals, or assuming better deal, closed to the 26th/29th?

It does not look like it. Looks like it needs to be the iphone 12 mini or SE to qualify for the additional free year.

" New Mint Mobile customers who purchase a Samsung A12, One Plus N100, One Plus N200, Samsung A32, iPhone 12 mini or iPhone SE and any 12-month plan on mintmobile.com will receive 12 months for free. Free 12-month plan applied as a renewal credit. "

I have not tried it. But I bet it is an add-on. Most MVNO charges extra for roaming services.
