If you want something simple that works well for hanging trim, this would be the way to go. Cordless nailers have come a long ways, and they probably have a place, but for occasional use, this is a much better solution. If you don't own an air compressor, you might be surprised how often you will use one. Once you have one you won't want to be without.
My suspicion is that this is a price mistake. Hopefully they honor it. My 13 year old cheapie Bostich is making some strange noises and taking longer than it should to fill up. It ought to be failing soon.

I've been looking for a nailer and this looks like a good deal so I pulled the trigger and thought I can ask questions later.
Well I needed a nailer but this also includes a pancake compressor. What is that used for? Can't imagine I have any need for that but i don't even know what it is.

It's a "pneumatic" nailer(s) and you need a compressed air to use/operate the tool.
Battery powered ones are more expensive but a lot more convenient because 1) no need for a compressor and don't have to lug it around wait for it build pressure 2) "wireless." Con: $$$

These are pneumatic nailers. They operate on air power, not battery. The pancake compressor runs a motor to compress air into a 6 gallon tank. When you shoot the guns, air bleeds from the tank to the gun to fire the nails. You'll need a matching air hose and fittings to connect the guns to the pancake. Be warned, 6 gallon pancakes are usually plenty powerful and cheap, but loud. You'll want hearing protection
Edit: just checked, the ridgid pancake is rated 80 decibels outdoors. Not deafening, but hellllla loud indoors. Ok for occasional use, if everybody is already awake!

Thanks. This sounds like more trouble than I wanted. I just want to hang up some crown molding and some wainscotting. Maybe I'll cancel and look for a wireless or electric one instead.

If it's a quick job, the deal might work out. Get a half-inch hose, cheap ear plugs, pew pew pew, put it all into storage. But yeah, if you're looking at few hours? I'd definitely go cordless, or buy a Makita gun/Harbor Freight cheapo and a quiet (<60db) compressor. Husky, Makita, California Air Tools, a bunch of others all make these now. Not a lot of power (no Days of Thunder impact wrench pit stops), but enough to fire a nail gun

As others have said, the compressor powers the nailer. Compressors can also be used with other pneumatic tools, or to put air in tires, or as a blower.

They're pneumatic nailers. They connect to the air compressor instead of a battery or power source.
Unless you're framing, I'd recommend a battery operated one. I'll never go back to air compressor if I don't have to. The convenience of shooting brads or finish nails without towing an air hose around is awesome. To be fair, if the place you're trying to shoot a nail is tight, the battery operated one's are a bit bulky.
I own both, FWIW - a Ryobi 18V and a similar setup to this 6g pancake, 95% of the time I'm using the battery powered one.

Must be a price mistake, this is the price for the finish nailer by itself
