They moved to an annual subscription model (no more perpetual) and they bundled their cybersecurity suite into their product. That is 2 strikes against them from their earlier versions, which is why I switched.

EDIT If you have an older perpetual license version that works well for you then there really isn't a need to switch IMO. Here is a forum thread on Acronis talking about alternatives including Macrium since the changes.

Macrium Free does basics for me. Clone from HDD to SSD or clone to a larger drive. They frequently release updates so it's always compatible with the latest Windows version.

I will be picking up a 4 pack as some family/friends could use incremental backups to secure their files.

All versions of Macrium (free too) can backup Windows Home and Pro. They are talking about licensing they mean it's not intended for business use.

I bought a multi-pack of Macrium v7 during the last deal. Nearly a year later, they gave me a free upgrade/update to v8. Was totally unexpected. Very pleasant surprise.

Also, I recently decommissioned a machine and forgot to deactivate the Macrium license on the machine before wiping the HDD. I contacted support and they reset the key for me in less than 12 hours.

Overall, great product. Great company.

This is fantastic software. Left Acronis many years before due to their 'changes'. Are they up to no good again?!

Thanks op! I've been waiting for the 50% off sale so I could replace my 10+ year old backup software that does not support win10.

Slightly worrisome: after submitting my order I got an order number and:
Processing delayed
We have received your order and it is undergoing normal, manual processing, which will be completed within the next hour. In exceptional cases, the process may last longer.

I sure hope it goes through. I did a lot of research and testing and Macrium is THE ONE! Smilie

UPDATE: 14 minutes after the initial purchase email I got the key in a second email - done and done!

PS1 - I tried Veeam Community and it does not include incrementals. Plus, Veeam was large: many services, threads, RAM usage, etc.

PS2 - Acronis has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. It is very bloated now and while many of the "extras" can be disabled, Macrium has all the features I want, a big user base, and tested out very nicely.

Anyone know if the workstation version will also be on sale? I don't mind paying the yearly service agreement to get in on that side to keep myself current.

If you are just backing up, Veeam community is free. It'll do bare metal and file restores.

I've been using Acronis for a while without issue, although I'm always open to a better option. What "changes" have they made?

Does this do incremental backup?
I just want two versions. One with my fresh install and the second with an update on files in Documents etc.
I hate Acronis, I cant use it even with paid version.
It craps out, and gives errors every time I have to restart my main machine.

Thanks, was waiting for this.
I don't really blame Acronis for moving to a subscription model though. This is what industry is moving towards and it makes sense. But it has getting bloated by stuff I don't care about.

I'm new to this software, free version. In your notes it shows Use: Home

Does that mean home use vs business version or for windows os home only, not pro? I know i know I'm nuking it.

I'd like to make a full disk image of a 2tb HDD and restore it to a 1tb on a brand new computer. Different hardware, from a 6th gen Intel to an 11th gen. Is it possible with this software ? this refers to the primary boot drive/data/programs of a win10 install .
