This isn't the same as the last gen console at all.
This one has AMD Zen2 CPU which is 3.6 GHz compared to the last gen that had an AMD Jaguar CPU that is 1.75 GHz.
This one has 10GB or RAM compared to 8 GB
This one supports 120 FPS gaming and has an HDMI 2.1 compared to 60 FPS out of the old console's HDMI 2.0.
The downside is this console is digital only and the previous version had a disk drive. If you are going to use Xbox game pass to play games this is going to perform to an unnoticeable difference compared to the Series X. The last gen isn't close.

Well, when you need to buy your kid a present this year waiting a year or two for the X isn't a good option

Considering a 1660 graphics card is around the same price in the current market when compared to the Series S, I think this isn't a bad choice at $300 for the whole package if someone wants to get into gaming on the newest gen console with the support that goes along with it. I am waiting on a Series X myself but I think this is at a good price point considering Xbox One X's are going for a similar price used and at least here you're getting a brand new console with similar performance as the One X but with a warranty and great Costco return policy. 🙂

Yeah that's not true at all. The Series S is a perfectly capable console, and while not quite as good on graphics as the X on a game like Forza Horizon 5, it loads just as fast and upscales to 4k with an ultra high speed HDMI cable.

Because Battlefield 2042 plays better on this than a Xbox One and I don't feel like waiting a year for Series X to be in stock.

It's still a fantastic console and better than the previous gen. I understand people wanting to wait on the Ps5 and Series X. But this is still a great buy and price and it's actually available.

The current Xbox Series S seems a lot more powerful than the Xbox One S/X with approximately double the CPU clock and a more powerful GPU. Microsoft just has two tiers for their current model and I don't see how you can call this "the old gen. "
