It does have a external battery connection but no physical key. So if the mechanism fails and it attempts to unlock and can't, a locksmith won't be able to pick it.

Works great but getting long in the tooth.

Don't recommend if it's your only door. If motor fails (mechanical failure, not battery failure) then you going to need to break a window to get in as a locksmith may not help here

I really wish they would give more than 5 minutes on the auto lock of the door. I broke a couple of dead bolts because it decides to lock as I close the door and ends up slamming against the frame.

I've had this for 3 years, no issues. Love that we can add multiple different users in "on the fly" through our nest app. Once while on vacation, we had a large package arrive on our front porch. Our neighbor alerted us and we made them a code from 3k miles away.
Also works great if you have a nest guard as this can integrate with the alarm system. It automatically shuts the alarm off when you come home and key your code into the pad. It's too bad nest/Google did away with that

not sure why people think its so good. ive had mine for 2-3 years now. note you can only have 10 codes. no more. and individuals you add have to be in google family. besides locking there isnt any more interaction with other nest products (you cant use nest guard key on lock for ex). anyway i still need another for a side door. but i wont pay more than a 100$

Does this not have an external battery connection in case the battery dies?

I've got a dumb lock from Yale that let's you connect a 9v battery to get in if it dies before replacement
