Does this not have an external battery connection in case the battery dies?

I've got a dumb lock from Yale that let's you connect a 9v battery to get in if it dies before replacement
It does have a external battery connection but no physical key. So if the mechanism fails and it attempts to unlock and can't, a locksmith won't be able to pick it.

That's the story for any failed mechanism, though, right?

You're basically drilling or cutting through the deadbolt at that point, I would think.

I think you have to expect some level of reliability from the mechanism. Not that I haven't seen a lock dud from Yale before. I almost bought an old dumb version that was on sale, but saw it couldn't stand up to cold weather after checking reviews.

If you ever watch lockpicking lawyer on YouTube, you'll get a better appreciation of what locksmiths can do without a drill.

I'm worried this is smart home overkill... I am torn between this and the dumb Yale lock with pinpad. Anyone care to chime in with an opinion?
I had an August and it failed 10% of the time. Ate through batteries. Finally failed 14 months in. August gave me a 10% discount code for an MSRP product...and it didn't even work.

I went back to a regular pin lock with key override. We use it every day with household of 5. Been on same batteries for 16 months already. 100% reliable and can program a temp code that disables after use if needed. Personally I think these are over hyped for my use case.

This lock has and had a lot of connection issues for me and it might have to do with my mesh wifi setup. I paid for installation service (door alignment issue) through nest/google and the person took a long time to add this lock to the app. Due to a power outage/wifi dropping the lock disconnected and I reconnected, but it took awhile. It disconnected sometime later again and I forgot how I reconnected it so it is currently not linked to my app… I tried multiple suggested solutions online. The keypad still works but I cannot control it from the app.

I've got a kwikset dumb pinpad lock and it does the job. Hard for me to justify spending $200 to now get it connected to my phone. Key benefit of entry without key is achieved

Got this the day I got it. Wonderful lock.
I, too, get things exactly the day I get them. It's very convenient. No waiting.

What are some good locks with long battery life? Doesn't have to be super smart but should have some sort of number entry. Also not super expensive

Get a dumb lock and don't buy these. Great for an air bnb but google screwed me over wit nest migrations. I regret buying it in totality once you realize that it's a limited life item subject to the software vendor caring about your 3-4 year old lock
