They do not enter your DL into their system, they simply just use it verify your identity. I shop and make returns there all the time, most of the time they don't even ask for it.
They stopped doing it from what people are saying. It created a backlash when they were doing it. I suspect that is why they probably stopped.
Here's the other side of the coin from someone who used to work in the electronic business.
People always abuse the system and the honest people suffer.
You'll always get jokers that want to bring back heavily used products for a refund.
especially the people that frequent this place.. they'd return their mothers if they could get $1 for them. Many here have no qualms about returning used stuff after they used them for whatever they needed, swapping items in boxes, etc.
It's really kind of disgusting how many dishonest people there are here just to save $1 or $10.
Best Buy AD is lackluster for sure. But let's be honest, they have been very aggressive with laptops, Chromebooks, and a bunch of other deals throughout November. This has been at least my observation. It's SD and it's always Black Friday here, especially with those crazy price mistakes all year long

I've received broken stuff in the mail from Best Buy and also Best Buy has been accused of selling used/ refurbished items as new. Corporations also abuse and scam consumers.

Years ago, I purchased two front struts for my vehicle.
When I took them out of the box.I had one was brand new strut and a box full of junk metal.
Someone had return it. The auto part staff had not checked it and resold the box.

Usually due to lack of staff or training. Companies just don't care any more. And Covid scenario making it worse, as some companies can't afford or find employees.
