Just FYI...

several threads on these... if you have a grandfathered plan, you can add these cameras. If not grandfathered, storage for XT2 is via subscription - the later versions can save via to Module 2 and forgo subscription for storage.

For what its worth, I got the 2 for $20 deal last week for the indoor cams, selected "used acceptable" and got four cameras still sealed in the box in perfect condition

Someone posted this on an earlier thread regarding the xt2 and subscription. So basically any xt, xt2 and 1st gen indoor will have free cloud storage. It doesn't matter when the account is created.

This user recently created a new account and received free cloud storage.

So, is there any way using third party apps or software to get unadvertised recording functionality from the XT2 cameras? Can I save the videos from the cloud to any kind of offline storage? Is any of this stuff accessible via a webpage on my PC? I have read of several people using Android emulators to run the app to even be able to see their videos on their PC.

I'm interested in the cameras but the software and storage seem quite restrictive based on what I've read online.

I'm not totally averse to cloud services, I just like to have the ability to have local copies of things. Also, is it possible to do manual recordings while watching video?

Edit: for what it's worth, I just found this discussion.

Blink may not be the best solution for people that like to be more hands-on and have more control of their devices. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I ordered the 3 camera kit in acceptable condition earlier today. Now, it looks like they added ones that are in "good condition" for the same price!

It's per sync module. Each sync module will get 7200 seconds for whatever amount of cameras you have assigned to them. The older videos will delete automatically when you hit the limit or you can delete them on your own.
If I get two 3 packs is it best to make two accounts or will I get free 7200 x 2 on one account? TIA.

If my camera is outdoors, I can still plug in the USB to some outlet and power from there?

To run a camera like this from two AA batteries won't last too much if it's say a regular driveway. What other options do we have other than the batteries?

and, how does it compare to WYZE?

Even our driveway xt2 batteries last well over a year. Energizer lithium. There are solar options for this also if that works better for you

if these cameras lose connection (say a wifi jammer or internet provider outage), then you're hosed (no recordings)?
Correct. All of the wifi cameras have that problem. Someone cuts your internet connection and they go down. You could solve this problem with an LTE router.

If you get the Sync Module 2 (second gen) it has support for local USB attached storage in lieu of cloud storage.

Sync module with local USB storage (theorieically) will still record. However, if you are looking for a reliable security camera the Blink XT2 camera system is *NOT* the camera system for you. These are very much "disposable" cameras that often have issues, have major latency between detecting activity, notification of activity and the recording of the activity.

If you want reliable cameras with real-time recording I recommend you go with a real CCTV system with DVR. The Blink system is very easy to setup and is great at capturing video for reviewing later if something does happen. But, the Blink system is NOT a serious security surveilance system in any, way, shape or form. As a matter of fact, anything that relies on your *Internet* access is not a good security system.
