I thought that too when I purchased my 2015 iPad 12.9. But you get used to it quickly and then of course after a while every other tablet looks too small. This time of year there's no reason not to try the larger one out and easily return if you don't like. You have to use it for a while. But I could never do the 11 inch one now. (Twss)

What are your thoughts on digital painting and editing? I bought this and an apple pencil 2nd gen primarily for my daughter who is very artistic and wants to get into digital art/video editing. She doesn't plan on carrying it around very much
It's perfect for her. The much better contrast on the screen alone will do wonders for her art and in darker environments at night - media consumption like movies with black bars look VASTLY superior to all other iPad devices.

It's noticable. I own it.

Don't second guess yourself. She will love it and it will hold it's resell and trade in value much better than the lower quality 11 inch.

Thank you for reaffirming my decision Smilie I was hoping the 12.9 wasn't too much. I saw the the 12.9 and 11 screens side by side and the 12.9 was drastically noticeably better

Yes it's pretty much the perfect device as TroyJason said. Procreate is incredible, cheap and it's not difficult to learn. There's also tons of brushes, stamps and guides on Etsy and from individual artists. I highly recommend searching YouTube for tutorials and accessories. Depending on the environment the iPad is used in I'd recommend a stand or something like the Sketchboard Pro.

Contrast this with something like the Microsoft Surface which is just as expensive if not more. Windows can be clunky with touch and interfaces with the different apps can be less than desirable. There's some great apps for the Surface such as Clip Studio Pro (Also available on iPad but with a subscription) Painter, Rebelle, Photoshop, etc. However the learning curve is much steeper but the breadth of your work is also more expansive.

For video editing ... it really depends, start with the software that is freely available such as iMovie and start playing around. There's other editing software but it can get complex really fast and it's best to start out with a good framework for your editing such as the guided experience rather than jumping in with something such as Lumafusion which I am still playing around with.

If you want more information feel free to PM me but this is an incredible gift to give someone who is into art.

This is great insight. Thanks for the information! My next venture was finding accessories. Thanks for the ideas! I was looking at Paperlike screen protector. Have you used these before?

I have used iCarez Matte Screen Protector which is similiar in that it gives a bite for the pencil. So when you hear people saying that the screen is too slick or without the proper amount of friction it's just a really odd sensation. I would caution buying it though because a lot of these protectors dull the screen in achieving this bite. I would see if it's an issue for her first because it's not as if you can take it off when you don't want it. Additionally you need to replace them periodically because you're putting pressure from the pencil on it and it can wear it down.

I'd recommend to continue to do your research as you have been, putting it on a list and weighing the pros and cons of each accessory before purchasing. You'll see digital artists using all sorts of things such as gloves to prevent accidental touch registering. I don't use the gloves because I find them annoying but an accidental touch can really mess things up. I highly recommend an external charger for the pencil. I have the first pencil and I ended up using the external charger/stand all the time. Having to charge the pencil via the iPad itself is just stupid. If she'll be creating a lot a longer charging cable can be helpful if you're using it on a flat surface but pay attention if you're using a stand because the original connector/cable depth and 3rd party adapters can cause problems.

I thought about it bc I wanted the better screen but went with 11 pro. Couldn't be happier. 13 inches is WAY too big for tablet. It's too big and heavy to hold for any period of time
Yeah if Apple didn't just come out with mini-LED laptops would definitely get this but makes more sense to go with laptop that already has keyboard included unless you are getting this primarily to use Apple pencil and touchscreen functionality. For example, if you going to use it as a drawing tablet perfect for that and bigger size actually an advantage for that. In that case will probably be using tablet flat on table or stand anyways and not holding in hand for long periods of time.
But agree any tablet bigger than iPad mini too large and heavy to be used as tablet for long periods of time. That's why I'm ditching my S7+ for mini as soon as they in stock anyways!
My S7+ basically sits on a stand most of the day whereas with my old iPad mini used to carry that thing all day and everywhere with me!
Anyways, best price for it so far especially without having to pay tax, hopefully they'll have the new iPad mini 6 on sale soon cuz that's what I really want but doubt it since orders backed up for months since mini so popular Frown

Next year Samsung drops some impressive Tablets (not as powerful but WAY better OLED screens) and Apple retailers will discount like they always have for the past 3 to 4 years.

Galaxy Tab 8 + Ultra

That being said this Pro (I own it) is fantastic.

RAM is lower 8gb vs 16 in the 1tb and 2 TB models but performance difference is negligible.
Way better think not. I own an S7+ and colors and gamma tracking way off compared to iPads that nail standard 2.2 gamma and grey colors accuracy correctly.

$90 savings over standard apple vet discount. Not too shabby. I love my 12.9 (miniled bloom and all).

12.9 is a better couch companion while the 11 inch is for carrying all over.
Don't forget the biggest discount no sales tax which is my favorite End considering what they use sales tax for

Is there any way to get this deal for non-active duty or vet?

If someone else orders it for me can I register it in my name for warranty purposes?
of course if you have a family member or friend that qualifies to purchase this you can get the warranty with zero issues in your name

It's great for creative purposes! I'm an artist and got the 12.9 for that reason. But I agree with the other posters… it feels too big for simple browsing. I'm typing this on my smaller, much older iPad Pro because it's far more comfortable and only grab my larger iPad if I want to draw something. Then again, it is easy enough to draw on this smaller screen too since you can zoom in and out with ease.
