I have a dragonfly red, am I likely to notice a considerable improvement in sound over the 58x? The 58x were my first set of headphones. Great sound, but I must admit they didn't blow me away.
Thanks for any input!

I can sleep in my HD-58X cans. Super comfortable imo, sooooooo much better than any in-ears that I have grown to despise.
Get the 58x if....
1. You do not have an amp
2. You have an amp but you prefer a more mid/midbass centric sound (they're veiled, but some people seem to like it)
It will still need an amp to truly shine, imo.
Get the 6xx if....
1. You have an amp
2. You are looking for a reference sound, and you like the feel of what Sennheiser has on offer.
3. You prefer a brighter tonality (they are a LOT brighter... but they also have way better bass extension too, if you have hardware that can push them)
At this price the 6xx is sort of a no brainer as long as you like the look and feel of these cans. They're decent for watching movies, great for most music, pretty good for gaming.
(They have that 3 blob issue that most sennheisers have, but it's not as noticeable. Imaging is very accurate on them most of the time (verticality is non existent to my ear)
Honestly though... if you don't have an amp and you're just looking for some good headphones you can drive off of anything, try out some Koss's. I've been breaking in a pair of KPH40 U's for a week now and I would rec them over shp9500's at this point.
