I bought it on Steam because that's where all my games are and I have every bit of confidence that 10, 15, maybe even 20 years from now, my games will still be on there and I'll still have access to them.
GoG's political censorship of the Devotion game was kinda crappy too, but that's a very minor thing.
Still, I hate having my games strung out over multiple stores, so unless some other storefront can beat steam's services, reliability, security, functionality, stability, and potential longevity, I'd rather have my games on steam.
if you compare it to skyrim, GTA, Assasin's Creed, Kingdom Come, Witcher 3, Far Cry.... It will really make you appreciate how great those games are! Those worlds in those games truly feel alive, which i am now appreciating.. Cyperpunk is worth $15 just for the story mode, story is decent, kinda like a blade runner flick... BUT NOT A CENT MORE
Skyrim? A game that feels alive? Ha.

I thought it was stuck on GOG because CDProjektRed owns both GOG and CyberPunk. Apparently its already on steam though but why would steam be a better option? They use DRM where GOG doesn't? I'm sure I'm missing something but just don't know what it is.
It could be some people want Steam because a lot of mods for games don't work unless it's the Steam version. Not sure if this is the case with CP2077 or not.

Some people will avoid buying games that require another launcher even if it means they wait years for the price to come down. Beyond that, since the game is not multiplayer, I don't see any other reason to own it on Steam unless you're into steam trading cards or something. Question I have is, does the Steam version just redirect to the GOG Galaxy App launcher like some other games do with other companies launchers? Steam is fine but I wonder if there's benefit of using the launcher from the company who made the game.

That is the basic argument I hear for Steam which I understand. 3 more days until my 18 year anniversary with my Steam account. In the early and fairly recent years, Steam was the only major launcher / purely digital game owning platform in the industry. However, companies have thought to themselves, why don't we just make our own launchers instead of paying a 3rd party middleman to host them? Steam/Valve also used to have major AAA games releasing all the time, but that has dwindled down to like Dota and that's it for the most part. I understand the loyalty, but there's nothing to say another company, even a publicly traded one like EA, UbiSoft, or Activision/Blizzard's launchers will go away any sooner than Steam might.

There was nothing to say that CompUSA, CircuitCity and other stores along with their payment systems would go away sooner than Paypal, but they did. Among the other people I am waiting for this game to go on $15-20 sale on Steam (to put in my backlog ) and refuse to install another (GOC) launcher on my PC. Steam + Epic is more than enough.

You're comparing apples to oranges. CompUSA and CircuitCity were big box stores that failed to innovate like BestBuy into the online market soon enough and PayPal is an online banking/payment system. We were talking about companies that all share the same basic similarities of game studios/publishers that own launchers all in the digital realm, but some are public and some are private.

Actually you don't have to download/install the GOG Galaxy launcher. You can download and install GOG games directly (DRM Free). The launcher just makes it "easier" or organize your games. I have about 100 (all free) from GOG and I've never used the launcher. Heck I've even installed and played a few!

Personally, I only buy games on Steam for the most part. I have over 2k games so it is nice to keep them all in one place. I don't want any loose games without launchers to track them on my PC and DRM free doesn't really matter too much to me when we are only comparing to Steam DRM, if it was Denuvo or something worse I'd start to care. I find Steam by far has the best features for updates, mods, friends, achievements, and tracking play. I have some games from GOG, mostly older ones, but I don't even install their client anymore. Non-Steam games added in are a noticeably lesser experience especially if using Steam Link streaming as I do.

But it still has bugs so I'm holding out for < $10.
