We have an older version of this (wedding present) … and don't have a ton of experience with other (cheaper) brands/models. Can anyone tell me if this thing is really worth the money vs other brands?

Air Fryer in my opinion is totally waste of money. we have one settling in kitchen, tried few times and stopped using them. all the time, the food was burned, and feel like sun dried chips. we continue to use Oven and cooks perfectly

On the other hand… we have a Cosori Air Fryer in our kitchen that is used every day. So much that we wound up ordering a replacement basket after a couple years of use. Today was bacon for breakfast and salmon for lunch. Thursday bacon for breakfast and air fried wings…. And so on. If you are burning your food then play with dropping the temperature and/or the time.

Quick answer is no. Air fryers are great if you know what you're doing with them and know what it does well and what it doesn't. Best quality air fryer imo is the ninja xl.
The Phillips have low volume capacity, the nonstick coating comes off easily, way over priced, and doesn't do much of a better job than cheaper alternatives.
This is a 7 qt per their description, which is quite expensive for a basket style. You can get a digital 8 QT for a lot less. Bella at Best Buy for $50 right now. I have an 8qt Gourmia digital, current price $89 but not on sale (I paid $50 last BF).

I've never burnt anything in any of my four different size air fryers. Sorry but you must be doing something wrong. Air frying cooks faster than in a big oven because heat is concentrated within a smaller space, plus it cooks by convention. Buy an instant read meat thermometer and download any of the free air frying cooking charts online to use as your guide.

Agreed. Either OP has a faulty unit or doesn't know how to use it properly. Our air fryer (aka super blaster convection oven) gets used every day.

So I have a Philips air fryer (smaller version) and it is good. But so are others.... I feel this price is ridiculous.
I paid $40 for mine from SD many many years ago and it uses the same vortex design.
My issues is the paint peals off, the basket broke (I need to manually put the metal in)... it is hard to clean. And just like other air fryes, I need to cook for 60% take it out and mix it up and cook the remaining 40% (for french fries and brussel sprouts sweet potato fries, etc..). And I really enjoyed doing chicken breasts in the air fryer... I usually use the air fryer in the winter and the bar b q in the summer.
