In case anyone is interested, Amazon and Best Buy currently have the Nintendo Switch version of Doom Slayers Collection for $34.99:

https://www.amazon.com/Doom-Slaye...B09D699YCD

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/doom...Id=6475803

Important note: Only Doom 2016 is on the cartridge. Other games are in the form of a BS download code... Almost did not buy because of this, but it's a good price for the Switch version.

Yeah...I totally get that. Hate supporting companies that do this kind of thing, but really wanted this on Switch. Oh well. Frown

What's wrong with the much older games being digital? It's more cost effective which is then reflected in the discount/price you're paying. It's a silly thing to complain about.
No it isn't, at least in my opinion. When you buy a physical game and it's partially digital, you only really "own" whatever is on the cartridge.

Say 10 years from now Nintendo pulls this from the eShop and you need to redownload. Then what? Another matter of concern is reselling the game when you are done with it. You need to sell a partial game, because the company decided to be scummy. That hurts the resale value of your game.

That said, I bought a copy, and I'm looking forward to it lol.

Legitimate criticism of products for sale is a silly thing to complain about. Ironically you're the one that's behaving petty here.

Rough switch tax on this. Back in August I bought the Slayers collection digital for PlayStation 4 for $7.49. That one's missing Doom 64, but that one was on sale for $1.64 at the time as well so got that too. On a similar note I got Doom Eternal Deluxe Edition that day for $22 same off ps store digital too.

Yeah... Huge Switch fan, but that Nintendo tax is real, and this title is a good example of that. I would imagine this was a difficult port. Either way, should look great on the OLED. If you want this on Switch specifically, it's the cheapest I've seen it.

Something I'm about to pay the Nintendo tax on is Tetris connected which I believe is getting a 25% drop to make it $30. Right now it's $16 on PSN. But this tweet sold me on the switch version ( https://twitter.com/RogersBase/st...45152?s=20 ) plus my friend has it on switch and not sure it has cross play

Also thumbs up to the thread if it's the best deal out there for switch owners

Nice, I haven't tried Tetris Connected. Aside from Doom Slayers Collection, I recently picked up Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition. Another Nintendo tax example, but really wanted that one on Switch.

This was on sale a couple months ago for Xbox and PS4 for I believe $10-15 brand new. Only game that is full is DOOM and the rest are digital games. So if you are specifically in the market for collecting Nintendo Switch games I'm sure this will go down even further in the future.

I'm with you on the whole having the full game on the card thing but that just means the card needs to be bigger. But bigger means cost more for the card. Which in turns will be passed onto the customers. So it might be $50-60 if that's the case. I can see why companies cheaps out. There won't be any profit if it's $35 and they have to pay Nintendo $15-20 for a 16-32gb card. Add another 30% they have to pay Nintendo to be on their system and that profit margin really dwindles.

This is a moronic argument. People buy physical copies because they want to own the games on physical media. When the Switch e-shop gets taken down eventually or these games get delisted the buyer will no longer be able to access the games they paid for. The games would all easily fit on a moderately-sized Switch cart, this is just spitting in the faces of physical media buyers.

They do this purposely (in my opinion) to make the used market prices artificially low on bundles as anyone with a lick of sense will assume the codes have already been activated. You could clearly fit all of the other Doom games on the card or have part of Doom 2016 as a download (more on that later) to make room for the smaller games.

I can kind of understand on bundles like the Borderlands games which would most likely require 3 cartridges as opposed to one. Having 3 cartridges would increase the consumer. Now the bundle costs $30-35 as opposed to $20 but you own physical copies. There is a obvious tradeoff.

On the flip side; are you really going to be selling Doom 64 years down the line or still playing that title when the Switch estore is taken down in 2030? They closed the Wii Shop Channel after 13 years which is a pretty long run for any consumer technology support. Also, for any Switch physical game which requires a download to complete, those will also not work after Nintendo sunsets the Switch online service making those games unplayable.

Now, if Radio Shack ever stops support for their Tandy series of IBM compatible personal computers.....heads will roll!
