Looks like a great deal for a respectably-powerful/equipped budget laptop, especially if you prefer more screen real estate, which is helpful for those of us who are farsighted. Thanks!

Bought one! Hopefully it's not too bulky like some 17 inchers.

A 3 cell @ 48 WHr battery is not going to give you more than a few hours on this one. But at this size and weight, ultra-portability isn't what it's made for.
In other words, you don't know, but are more than happy to give a completely arbitrary opinion without any substantiation at all.

Here; I'll take one for the team and do for you what you wouldn't do for the other person.

This laptop will get 8-9 hours of use on a full charge. This is based on multiple benchmarks showing the exact same laptop with the 32Wh battery getting about 5.5. This equates to approximately 10.3 minutes of runtime per Wh. hence, in this version you can expect about 8 hours of casual use. You might get a little less with heavy use or more with light use.

Can you display to 2 monitors with this?
Theoretically you could display to as many monitors as your RAM will allow, which means dozens if you daisy chain USB-C monitors. That said, you'd probably only care to display to 2 or 3, which is easy as there are 3 USB ports and an HDMI port.

You plug in an HDMI to USB dongle. It's as simple as that. I still have two of such dongles in my desk from like 10 years ago. They're like five bucks on fleaBay.

Specs say max memory is 16 GB. Looks like it comes with a soldered 8GB chip and you can add another 8GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM. As for storage, I don't know there's a limit, except whatever size SATA III 2.5" drive you can find.

https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/F.../techspec/

Follow-up question: Can someone tell me if the speed of RAM matters, from a dual channel standpoint? Do I need to match the speed of the soldered chip and, if so, what the speed is?
The ASUS VivoBook 17 K712EA-SB55 Laptop takes the DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHz Non-ECC SODIMM memory type, and comes installed with 8GB (Soldered) memory.
How much memory does the ASUS VivoBook 17 K712EA-SB55 Laptop take?

Got this from one of the memory sites..
You can upgrade your ASUS VivoBook 17 K712EA-SB55 Laptop to up to a maximum memory capacity of 40GB Memory.
How many total memory slots to install memory?

The Laptop has 2 Slots (1 Upgradable) to install memory, already with 8GB (Soldered) standard memory installed. For best VivoBook 17 K712EA-SB55 Laptop performance use the maximum amount of 40GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your Laptop.

Touche! I have returned my FUD to my rectum. (Deleted my post).
Watch out. One such as yourself could come along and give direct links to an answer which would trump your extrapolation. I hope they don't shame you so cruelly.

Beats my answer by miles in any event. I based my answer on reading similar deal threads, I must admit. You have put me in my place. Crawling back into my hole. I certainly was not intending to mislead.

That's what I understood as well, was my only hesitation with ordering this (which I did). I do hope it will take more than 8gb more (total 16gb). If it does, I'll be very happy with this purchase
