No longer able to stalk, with upcoming update to ios 15.2
Sadly, I actually use this to legitimately keep track of my car.Carjackings are up nowadays
Apple apparently is more afraid of being suit by someone unknowingly being stalked, than the owner lose their items tracked by airtag, which is the very original selling point of airtag, it tokk a 90 degree direction pivoting so ironic.
What is everyone buying with apple gift cards? Even if you buy more AirTags you still end up with a gift card at the end. I'm not so sure I'm that interested in being forced to buy more apple stuff. I think I'd rather just get the AirTags cheaper like from some of the other deals or through the Chase rewards, than to pay full price and get a small value gift card.

The kind thief who's rich enough to buy a $1300 iphone 13, 12 that runs ios 15.2 yet still want to commit stealing, you won't have much a chance to beat anyway.

15.2 works with iPhone 6S and above. They cost about $100 used.
…and we still don't have family sharing. I can see everyone in my family and they can see me via Apple devices, but we can't share AirPods for items that we use together.
I'd be happy if my family member can have a way to respond to the stalking warning message with confirmation and remove the beeping and further stalking warning.
Obviously tracking people is not something Apple is interested at all, stalking or not. Apple even is willing to make thief aware and compromise the primary advertised purpose of airtag to achieve that objective.
I'm not buying anymore airtags until Apple shows the sign of getting smarter at the airtag.

But realistically who's going to upgrade their iphone 6, or 7 to iso 15, make the phone slow and drain the battery so they'll have no choice but buy new phones.
I have an iphone 7 still runs on ios 12.. last week it prompt to upgrade to 15 so intrusive that the message box refuse to go away no matter what I do. I ended up reboot the phone to kill the prompt, still it may come back anytime. The prompt has two options, upgrade now or later. Guess what, both will result in upgrading irreversibly. Only difference is now or 8 hours later when you go to sleep.
If a thief is dumb enough to upgrade an iphone 6 to ios 15, then I bet you won't have to worry about this thief understand what airtag is and does.

Plus, I was referring to your comment about using $1000+ phone to track AirTag. Hence my post that you do NOT need that. An iPhone 6S and above is good enough to run 15.2.
