Here is a vacuum wars review/comparison on the Vertex.

It has a smidge more power (104 vs 101 suction and 105 vs 90 cfm). But I personally don't think that is worth like 2x the price. It also may not necessarily even equate to any noticeable difference in cleaning.
Edit: And I didn't notice you already chose the apex. But I'll leave this up as it may be helpful to others.
The Apex is better.
If you want a $100ish vacuum, I'd recommend the Navigator 360 at Kohls.

I didn't see a place to enter couple codes, but I did see a 15% off offer that I could click on and then a "pickup perk" button (easy to miss) for the additional $5 off. Personally I'd rather have this delivered to my house than to try to save $5 driving to Kohls and waiting in line at the order pickup area, but to each his own.
