Extremely tempting but I wish it were fewer knives. I dont know if you can commit to having so many of them unless you have a large household and everyone agrees to take good care of them.

I bought a wusthof classic knife set some time ago from cabelas and my family uses the knives to bust open paint cans, open shipping boxes, and even one used a knife to scrape at something off the floor (the sound still makes me cringe just thinking about it). My family throws them alongside our the old knives and despite lasting 25 years only the handles are disfigured and rusted. Old school JCPenney set. The absolute state or modern product quality vs "cheap" knives from the 90s.

So anyway this knife set is kinda at an impasse. Either you live in a household which uniformly understands the value of expensive quality knives or you resign these knives to a fate of being used/washed improperly as you lament your unherdable cats. It simply doesnt make sense to buy this many knives if you live in a one-two person household (unless you regularly have people over?).

There's also a 7 piece set for sale but it has all those empty spots I honestly hate. Here's hoping the compact Wusthof studio sets make a comeback as they've seemingly disappeared.

Would go for it, but don't want the steak knives. Thanks, though.

Agreed. Last year's gift to P2 was this set for $160.

We almost never use the paring knife, but otherwise, everything in that set is all someone typically needs.

Short-term, no issue. Long-term, sharpening is a real hassle with the bolster, you wind up with the cutting edge being blocked by a portion of the bolster, and then you need to very carefully grind a portion of the bolster off to be able to use the full cutting edge. Google "full bolster sharpening" and look at the Image search results for a quick examples.
