I read on Kindle. Is it annoying to have books on two platforms?
Andy Serkis is great as a voice actor. My kids (10 and 12) and I are listening and following in the book to him read LOTR and they love it. For the price, I wouldn't hesitate.

Not to knock Andy Serkis, but What was wrong with the Rob Inglis versions? I can see remaking a movie with modern technology, but an audiobook? Seems unnecessary.

What better audiobook narrator than the guy who voices Gollum?
It's also on Scibd, as well as the Inglis and e-book vers. I pay $10/mo and usually listen to 4-5 books. Good resource for audio and e-books if you don't need to 'own' them.

Are you kidding. I'm compelled to own The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on any possible medium and print release . . . I keep 5 trade paperbacks on hand for when someone says they haven't read it.
Hobbit/LotR (and nothing else Tolkien in my opinion) have excellent re-readability . . . although, when the elves start to sing it's a lot like when Van Helsing gets going about something in Dracula . . .
2 Good questions:
1) To anyone who's heard it - how are the singing parts?
2) To those who speak elven fluently (yeah, it's a thing I guess), how accurate is it?

Having listened to both, I much prefer inglis's performance. That said, I doubt the Inglis version can be gotten legally for $2. If you can borrow free from a library, I highly recommend. Inglis also did a stellar read of the LoTR trilogy. Wish he had done silmarillion.

sweet! also picked up his narration of Fellowship of the Ring.
Might have to read the book and rewatch the movie. I like the Andy Serkis narration sample.
I always thought the hobbit was a bigger book than it is... 310ish pages or 10.5hr audio book is pretty short.
Having now read the entire A Song of Ice and Fire series and all of its canonical companion texts, I find the Hobbit/LOTR/Silmarillion looks like much more moderate reading.
For all the Hobbit heads like myself, this is a must. Better on the big screen, but while you're waiting on the next Hobbit movie you can play this. Or if your wife or girlfriend is expecting you can play this Audiobook since the little Hobbit Head to be can't see anything yet. I give this audiobook 5 bags of popcorn and 5 sodas.

Same, I'm coming off the Stormlight Archive series where each book was 1200+ Pages lol.
