While I agree with you about not buying from 2nd sources, no predetermined codes come with these devices. During setup, a new recovery phrase is generated.
I'd highly recommend getting the Nano X over the S. The storage on the S is so small that you can only have two apps at a time. Fine if you'll never use anything other than BTC and ETH, but a huge PITA if you want to use more than two apps.

I would never buy a cold storage wallet from a second source. Too easy to steal the seed phrases and then steal the crypto.

Ledger official seller not legit enough? Or someone at the Amazon distribution could tamper the packaging prior to shipping?
Even if the seller is Ledger, that isn't a guarantee that the device you receive was part of their inventory. Pretty certain Amazon stores all inventory for an item together and does not separate by seller.

Been in crypto for many years and still fearful of these devices. Want the ability to store indefinitely for 20 years without the thing breaking. Seems like paper is better solution. Also got to see family member get bombarded with scam calls after the ledger hack.

You don't lose your crypto if you lose/break your Ledger. You safekeep your seed on paper somewhere. Ledger provides another layer of authentication when performing transactions on the blockchain.

Any recommendations for a crypt wallet that can hold alt coins as well ?
The ledger nano x is pretty high on my list, as the coin support on external wallets just seems stronger. Most I use appear to support ledger.
Id rather get a trezor model t, but it appears the support, both directly on the device and with third party wallets, is weaker (most don't appear to support trezor integration).
I was aiming for the Trezor, I thought they will have a sale today at their website but I missed the fine print that states the Black Friday sale is for accessories only! Doh! Still there is a discount if I select the "reserve in advance" one.. 13% off according to the website. I've been debating on the Ledger and the Trezor but decided I'll get the Trazor Model T soon.. Just don't get the express shipping and save a bit of money.

Can this store doge or hina inu?
These are hard or 'cold' wallets
'A hardware wallet is typically a USB drive device that stores a user's private keys securely. This has serious advantages over hot wallets as it is unaffected by viruses that could be on one's computer because private keys never come in contact with your network-connected computer or potentially vulnerable software."

I would never buy something this sensitive from Amazon due to the way that they handle their inventory (mixing sources together). I've received several counterfeit high-tech products (CPU's and other devices) that were shipped and sold by Amazon, not a third-party store. Proceed with caution because it might be the most costly slickdeal you're ever going to purchase.

did a day of research on these last week. ledger nano x, as far as im concerned, is the only possible choice. nano s is way too small, to the point i dont even understand why they made it. trezor is missing support for key assets [Uniswap (UNI), Avalanche (AVAX)] plus more. avax is key here for me. its my understanding that only 3 hardware wallet types are supported by metamask currently, although i may be incorrect on that.

Still researching though; I own neither yet.
