I keep seeing lots of negative about the gpus on these but no specifics. I've seen some pretty bad OEM gpus in the past. But it's def not a bad idea to look into thermal padding for heavy use either way, even on brand name gpus.

I picked up a 30L 3090 system last year, couple months to go on paying itself off.

Here's a couple notes for anyone considering these systems.

1. 3090 will throttle hard with the stock cooler, it's absolute garbage. I didn't game much before swapping it out but i cant imagine it wouldnt have throttled gaming as well.

2. The AIO for the CPU is trash, runs no better than a air cooler.

3. HP Bios don't have XMP, you can load old versions of intel extreme utility to try to unlock the ram's full potential but default it runs at like 22CL.

4. The upgraded PSU isn't modular, has cpu/motherboard/2PCI 8pin, 2 sata power (one unused, one for the fan controller) and nothing else.

5. The RGB fan controller and fans are all proprietary garbage.

6. Airflow on the 30L case is complete garbage, even if you manage to rig up extra 80/90/120mm fans inside.

7. My original order had like a 3 week build time, and they delayed shipping 2-3x and it came ~5 weeks after original delivery estimate.

8. Anything besides the 3090 are going to be LHR, why would HP have any stock of V1 cards left they can barely fill orders as it is?

9. Video card choices:

If you're going 3090 i'd recase the entire system to some kind of airflow / mesh, and repad the 3090 of which there are a ton of pads needed of various thickness. All the screws on the GPU are installed with blue locktite so you'll need a good set of micro screwdrivers to break the crap up. As the 3090 was going to be my main system I ended up watercooling it with a custom loop & active backplate ~$500. Makes roughly $7.50 a day as I do not play many games and it runs 24/7.Twapped the PSU with a different computer that didn't need as many power connectors, as the custom loop needed molex power that the HP PSU (Coolermaster) did not have.

3080 may should run better for mining as there's no vram on the backside of the PCB, but I'd still repad and rig up an extra 120mm on the front (bottom), or run the thing with the side panel off.

3070 I think I'd run with just the 120mm fan in the front bottom.

3060/3060ti builds may be the most plug and play with less worrying about needing to change anything. I'd still mine something like Ergo ($2 a day) with those as Ergo does not run video cards hard and generates way less heat.

So far Ryzen systems 3 people confirmed NON LHR 3080s in last month from previous deal. but since more people ordering for holidays could be.

Just go to YouTube and look at the thermal pad replacement videos. A couple of them talk about the subpar cooling, thermal pads and VRM stages on HP cards. Basically you are getting a low-end card and where the thermal pads stick its not on the heatsink itself. There's a miniscule gap but that makes all the difference in cooling a high-end card like a 3080/3090.

Sadly what's more telling is that even Dell's own OEM 3090 is pretty good and better that some of the 3rd-party OEM cards like MSI, Gigabyte, etc. Dell cards are assembled better and it has a vapour chamber.

Just be ready to take apart the HP cards and make some modifications.

Thanks for mentioning it; a quick google shows that many folks, like me, ordered just the base 8GB RAM in an Omen, and were later caught off guard by problems upgrading the RAM

If a solution requires jumping thru hoops, then I may consider either:
1) canceling my existing order w/target delivery date of Dec. 14 or
2) attempt to amend the existing order to increase the 8 to 16

Does anyone know how difficult either option would be?

No issues with adding more ram to Ryzen Omens PC. You can set timing in ryzen master program to 1600 for 3200mhz with any ram kits tons of youtube videos on how to do this. for $100 you can get 32gb kit why would pay that for extra 8gb.

Oh ok, sounds like the 3rd party RAM upgrade problem is specific to Omens with Intel CPUs, but the AMD Ryzens in this deal can easily get around it... thanks, so now I don't have to worry about cancelling or amending my order

5600x is $300 retail. 5800x is $360 retail. There is only $60 difference but HP wants $180 to upgrade. What gives?

i had a 3090 build in my cart, was able to check out with it on nov 24, at 11pm east. i added it when this deal dropped and couldn't decide if i want to pull the trigger. ETA is 12/16. we'll see what happens.

if I do get it, i will strip it down. sell the garbage motherboard. memory, ssd, psu it comes with but will keep the 5600x for now. will water cool the GPU. it's a reference PCB, which should be awesome.

Ya'll have to mod the 3080s and 3090s if you wanna mine on them. Just FYI. People already know this for a long time and there are instructions out already.

Recommend Frosty Thermal Pad 12.8 W/MK. Most OEM cards use 1.5mm thick pads for everything so it makes life simple. Someone can verify and see if HP has changed from before, but usually its 1.5mm that fits the bill.
