Just bought $400 in gift cards from target and then bought the exact watch I was looking for directly from apple. Essentially paid full price but got $60 in target gift cards back.

There is a reason. The real plan for the 7 was the heavily rumored redesign. However due to supply chain problems, they had to bail on that plan and this was the backup plan. It is a bigger watch face BUT the screen is further from the glass leading to more internal reflections. In some ways it is a downgrade. Expect the redesign next year. Wait if you can.

If you want ECG function as a heart monitor for health problems, those are absent from the SE. All you get it heart rate (BPM) info with the SE. also the display turns off to save battery on the SE.

I had the Series 6 and returned for the SE. The always on display drains the battery, so I disabled it. ECG is a novelty for me, no real use. Found the SE to be a better choice.
