A couple of advantages:

1. Upgradeable RAM
2. Full Dell thunderbolt functionality.

I've learned in 2021 that no laptop/notebook is good enough here on SD and I will be stuck with my 10 year old 8/640GB Dell that's bogged down into oblivion.

I think I might have the $120 Amex deal. Wondering if that makes it a better deal.
Because this is under "Dell Technologies", you might need the $200 off $800+ amex offer. The $120 off $600+ is for Dell Consumer. Please let me know if I am wrong.

I would go for this HP sold by Costco for the same price for sure and even if it were more expensive by $100. The screen on this Pavilion Aero (even though the Costco description does not say "Aero") is much much better (400 nits vs. Dell's 250), and the HP is also almost a full pound lighter. The HP uses more plastic than the Dell, so the durability may be an issue, but that is where the weight advantage comes from.

Performance-wise, the Rizen 7 5800U does not perform at its peak because of the inherent TDP issue with HP's small form factor, but it should still be plenty fast.

Dell does have the advantage of the Thunderbolt 4 port, but if the push comes to a shove, I would take the better screen of this HP any day of the week and twice on Tuesdays. The Dell comes with a better Intel WiFi card vs. HP's crappy Realtek, but this card is easily replaceable (an Intel AX201 is about $25).

AND you get a long warranty by buying from Costco using the Citi Costco Anywhere Card (Costco adds 1 year and the card adds 2 years). Dell's is one year, unless you buy an expensive Pro Support for an additional year(s) (because this is a Vostro).

Wow… $800+ discount, more than 50%.

What's the catch?
Dell is no longer a quality build, so I'm interested to know more others

I would go with the Costco machine for sure. Unless you want an ethernet port or micro sd card reader, both of which can easily be gained through an adapter (both have thunderbolt). The biggest selling point of the Costco over this machine is the screen. It's 16:10, which makes a very big difference in a laptop of this size, and it appears to have a brighter screen. It also appears to have a better cooling system. I doubt the i7 in a chassis this thin with an Intel chip will outperform the i5 in the Costco machine very much. You don't have to worry about upgrading the ram (16gb is plenty in ultrabooks like these for the majority of users) in the Costco machine. Although the build quality is probably better on this (Vostro), which is a business class machine, the Costco machine is also aluminum and I doubt that slight benefit will outweigh the costs associated with choosing the Vostro in this post over the Costco unit...

Shown below are the entire terms and conditions of this AMEX $120 statement credit offer for Dell. "Dell Technologies" is not mentioned among the explicitly excluded entities and conditions. If the channel you are buying from is not mentioned here, then you should be good to go.

By the way, "Dell Technologies" is the name used for the holding company that consists of Dell Client Solutions (the 'usual' Dell) and Dell EMC.

(Emphasis is mine)

Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date). Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/31/2021, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items/services from your qualifying purchase have been shipped/provided by merchant. Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account. The enrolled Card account must be active, not past due, canceled, or have a returned payment outstanding to receive the statement credit. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. Membership Rewards or cash back) earned as part of your existing Card benefits, but your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount after any statement credit or other discount is applied. Amex Offers are dynamic and personalized, so the offers you see may change. For questions regarding your Card Account, please call the number on the back of your Card. This is a business class laptop, usually these things are above $1000. The i7s that I procure in batch of hundreds cost me almost $2k each. I get hefty discount btw as a corporate customer.
This is a very good deal. Vostros are easily accessible and upgradable.
