I like the build of the modern. It's a little flexy, but not too bad. There is a bit of a sharp edge along the sides at the bottom where the bottom cover butts up with the aluminum sides. I like the feel and keyspacing on the 15" a lot (probably thanks mostly to no numeric pad). It's thin and light. I know most are that way now but I really liked how it looks smaller than my last 15" laptop even though the screen is the same size.

Only concern is resale value, but it seems the MSI has built some reputation and market share in the last couple years. I might sell my current Modern because I did pull the trigger on this one.

Support site/resources are weak but I seldom rely on Dell/Lenovo as I just wipe the machine as soon as I get it (fresh install). I've had my Modern for about a year and no issues at all.

Read some reviews on the Modern series. They are solid.

In for one - this is the best 15.6inch 512gb SSD/16gb RAM/USB-C (with power delivery)/modern CPU laptop I have found. It's on par in price and specs with a few others (Dell Inspiron 15 linked below and the Lenovo ThinkPad at Costco) but it looks like this MSI line may have a better build quality (and no numeric pad)!

I think a lot of people may skip this thread if they didn't see the 16gb version, I personally am weighing between the 16gb version vs the costco HP 13" that's also 700

So you recommend this? What's different in comparison to Costco ? TIA

The other 15" modern I have I took off bottom panel, has a spare slot. Bought matching RAM and there is also a spare NVMe slot to expand (I like having a physical second drive vs. a single larger drive).

I went with Costco hp, can't beat costco rebate and return policy. Also I feel like the magnesium case win it for me. Also betting that the build quality is better on the hp, but that's just a blind bet.

Could you tell me whether there are CPU voltage adjustment options in the BIOS of your MSI modern?

The webcam is usable for Windows Hello biometrics? Asking for family member.

Thanks!

Bought this system a year ago at $899 pricepoint. here are my thoughts:
i7 (8th Gen) 16GB ram & 512 GB m.2
Pros-
light weight with a solid build
sleek aesthetic look (business environment approved)
I use this for regular office/student work- excel modeling (large data sets), Powerpoint, MS word, etc.
played GTA 5 and it ran hot (to me) but my geek buddy said the temps were normal for game-play
this price-point
Cons-
touch-pad is buggy sometimes (now I mainly use an external mouse)
because it's a metallic build, it chips easily
outside part of the screen hinges are plastic and both side have broken in half at almost the same point

Please. How does it handle excel files or word documents with lots of graphics and pictures. Thank you.

Anyone know if the modern 15 with the 16GB RAM could eventually be upgraded from 512GB to 1TB SSD?
