I've been happy with this one. Returned the TSR-700 and went with this. Much better experience so far.
FYI, I recently got this about a month ago. Mine occasionally drops connection to speakers. Occurs about once a week. Tried different speaker wires and HDMI. Still occurs. Prob just my sample, but just putting it out there. Been waiting for it to come back in stock for an exchange.

I have this receiver and so far it has work without issue. I'm absolutely loving it. Calibration with Audyssey was easy. Only had to increase center channel and subwoofer by a few db. Handles everything without issue. The only hdmi output does not bother me as I only have need for 1 output. I recommend this to someone looking for a budget receiver
After Running Audyssey I would still use a SPL meter to get all the speakers @ 75db….

Perfect timing, my 10 year old Denon 1613 just died. I've been told this receiver is a solid mid range pick. Clicked buy

Hi audiophiles,
I have a simple old school 5.1 setup for 4K TV-movies-video games but would like to access new apps and music on a newer better-sounding receiver. (That i don't have to turn the volume up and down constantly between loud music and soft dialogue scenes.)

Would this be a good fit for me? Or overkill maybe? Thanks!
I don't think it's overkill at all at 75 watts per channel (sorta middle of the road). Pretty good price for 4k and 7.1. If dialog still sounds soft just bump the dbs of the center channel a little.

I still have the TSR-700. Occasionally it drops connection to speakers and I need to turn off and back ON to reset the connection and get audio. I played with the different settings trying to find what is causing the issue but no luck so far. I might give this or the Onkyo a try.

What differences did you find to make it a better experience than the TSR-700?

Thanks
One of the big differences is that Yamaha still haven't gotten off their a***es and provided a hardware update to support 4K120Hz. Yup, all TSR-700 Owners will need to send their unit in somewhere and have it upgraded.

This supports it right out of the box. no gimmicks like Yamaha is doing.

This receiver is okay... Sounds great, but the 4k input is useless, since I'd be using it for gaming, and with gaming mode, it turns off the onscreen volume... So you may as well use the 4k 120hz input on the tv and then use HDMI out from the tv to the receiver for tv audio.

Bought this last week at this price, and really like it. Much simpler to use than my old Pioneer Elite SC-65. Works well with my Cable and Fire Stick 4K. Dolby Atmos working just fine with all devices and I can really tell the difference. More than enough power to drive my 7 Klipsch speakers.

With respect to just sound quality how do these two compare. I have a higher level Denon (4300) that I am happy with in my main room. But have a TSR700 in my living room.

I own a Yamaha TSR7810 a few years ago, and thought it is a great unit except the bass management isn't where i like it to be when watching movie.

Do u think this Denon is better than the Yamaha i have?
Can't speak to that specific model but I will say bass sounds better for me on this one compared to the TSR-700. Was beginning to wonder what the big deal was with SVS subs until I switched receivers. Realize sound can be subjective and totally possible I had something configured wrong on the Yamaha, but that is my experience. I always had to crank the volume on the Yamaha to get the sub to turn on which was super annoying.

Get with the times. Nothing wrong with Onkyo. They have been solid ever since the hdmi issues if many years ago. Not only that, but they warrantied and fixed the affected units and extended the warranty on top of that. In the audio world, no one has a perfect track record. Denon, Marantz, and Yamaha have all had problems of late, and it will not be the last. Nothing wrong with hating on a manufacturer, but hate them because they treated you like crap and told you to get lost. Don't hate when they took responsibility for a failed device and fixed/replaced it under warranty. Denon's recent actions with their receivers show they wouldn't have done that.
Agree to disagree. weeks/months of downtime for repair and the owner paying shipping on something this big - even in situations where there were multiple failures of the same components - didn't earn them any goodwill from me.

I would say I prefer the Denon. Bass sounds better to me. I still have a TSR-700 in my main living room and don't see any reason to change. Was having issues on the one I returned where the screen wouldn't always turn on and I'd have to power cycle the receiver. No issues so far with the Denon.

Might have answered this in another post, better bass for me in my specific room. Had issues with the previous one where tv would be on, but black screen. Would have to power cycle the receiver a couple times to get it to work. Yamaha seemed to run hotter in a semi-enclosed stand (I have fans that turn on at a set temp and was on a lot more with the Yamaha). I don't have to turn up the volume for the receiver to send a signal to the sub. Like the option for 2 subs on this one should I ever decide to upgrade.

I bought mine a day or two after it was first released in stores. It sold out pretty quickly and I haven't seen it back since.
