This is apple to oranges comparison

Don't expect ppl locked into the Apple ecosystem to want to jump to Android...
I use both so it's a YMMV.

I got the SE earlier in the year from Cricket. I like the smaller form factor and the finger print reader. If you're ok with an 'uncool' yesteryear-looking iphone, the deal on the SE can't be beat.
And horrible battery life.

This is a misleading post for $249 price point
You don't get to unlock the XR after 3 months. It will be a full year of service to unlock it
$300 after taxes.

Here's my YMMV regarding Cricket. This was last month.

I picked up two SEs at a dealer. Phone was $49.99 plus $25 activation fee. No prepaying for 3 months of service. And I did drop the plan down from $60/month to $30/month, no problem.

I had a $25 credit from a Chase card that cut $25 off the total. I'm funding the rest of the balance needed to get to the 6 month unlock with referral credits and Kroger discount cards.

Bottom line: Run the numbers and see if you can find a dealer that won't hold you to the 3 month/$60 requirement.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a ass. But Cricket is a Verizon sub side. They require 6 months of use. WHICH IS MUCH BETTER THAN A YEAR. IMO, and your only paying for the service. So, you can do whatever with a Iphone SE/XR
Cricket is not a sub of Verizon. They are owned by AT&T. AT&T requires 6 months of service and so does cricket. Verizon only requires 60 days and they unlock the device on their own. Straight talk is a year.
I have worked in wireless for years and I hope that helps

Appreciate the words, kinda already got the info from a hostile person. I'll keep that in mind. I was thinking of messing with Verizon. Metropcs is killing me with my stuff not working.

Based on the offer details, it makes it seem like you could go to the group once you complete one month of $60 service. The other $120 seem like they are just credited to you account and might be useable as credit?

$49.99 iPhone XR Offer
Ends 12/2/21. Requires new line & new account. Excludes upgrades & AT&T ports. Pay first three months of $60/mo. plan service ($180 total) at point of sale, plus device taxes. $60 will be applied to first month service charge. Remaining $120 will be credited to your account and applied to second and third month service unless used on other eligible service or features. Account will remain subscribed to $60/mo. plan for three months. Credit will be lost if service is canceled. Credit is not redeemable for cash, has no cash value & is not transferable or refundable. Add'l one-time fees may apply.
So if the credit is not transferable, does that mean you can't merge to an existing account?

$249 right now from Walmart with straight talk no plan required.
This phone is $49. The service costs the difference. So cricket is cheaper. 🤨

Cricket wireless customer here. If you are planning to buy this phone and plan to continue using your own phone(BYOD) remember that they no longer unlock the device even if you are with cricket wireless for a year. This device you purchase has to be used for a year to get it unlocked. Its such a crapy rule they put in place a year back or something. Such a pathetic customer care. I have two devices from last year which I didnt use since i was using my old phone. now they are nothing short of bricks to me!
