I like asus boards just for their fan control alone in the bios. Also had a z490 MSI tomahawk where they released a bad bios that bricked the board. Company never pulled the bios and multiple people all complained about it bricking their boards.
Me too!
How old is your son? Pm me and I'll help you
Same chip as you and from the comparison on Newegg it shows the Asus board supports faster ram speeds even with OC. The Asus also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I think these three things are worth the extra $20.00. Thermals are usually good on either. They are pretty evenly matched otherwise.

You're comparing z590 vs z490 if same price is always go with the newer chipset.
I would like to get a CPU/Motherboard combo that would give me a significantly more power. Any suggestions?
Buy a 9700k, then mod the CPU and your current motherboard to make it work.
What games does he play? Also, how old is he?
Then ur not making a pc
Tell your son not this year as another said and preorder a steam deck. At this point that might be better than buying some pre-builts

It all depends on the kind of games he plays. For most the $609 will do what is needed in most games, but will be unplayable in other games. It isn't too future proof also. Games like mine craft, rocket league, among us, and low graphics demand games can be played easily on that. The $1500 deals will play everything and be able to play all games for 5+ years.
