NEVER EVER BUY WD / SANDISK. THEY DO NOT HONOR WARRANTY. THEY WILL JUST TAKE UR DRIVE AND NEVER SEND YOU REPLACEMENT, AND ALSO REFUSE TO SEND BACK THE ORIGINAL DRIVE.
Which hard drive brands are reliable brands to buy?

BBB 1/5 star review! https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/san-jos...216-388853
Sucks that you had this experience. Here are two things you can control to avoid unhappy purchases like this in the future.

One, know that businesses limit their liability. This limitation applies to goods and services. If you buy a hard drive that fails, then the manufacturer at most will replace the hard drive; the manufacturer is not responsible for your data that was on the hard drive. If you want someone besides yourself to be responsible for the data, then purchase a drive with a provision for data recovery.

(Limitations of liability are stated in the fine print that most people never read. Read the fine print of goods and services that interest you; if you don't want to read the fine print every time, then at least read entirely through fine print once in a while.)

Two, be proactive about your own data. Familiarize yourself with backup best practices, such as the 3-2-1 rule, actually testing your backups, and so on. I'm unsure whether you had only one copy of the data, but that's what it sounds like after reading your BBB post. I have misgivings about Western Digital, but I don't think they did anything wrong in your case.

Incorrect, I RMA-ed a failed drive earlier this year. beginning to end, turn around was about 4 weeks

citing BBB is a straw man argument, it is basically a forum to lodge a complaint so the ratings are always ridiculously skewed

There is no better alternative

I still have a WD MyBook World Edition (white light) running just fine for the last 10 years (a 2TB WD Red inside w/ WD Nasware) without any issues. Pretty reliable brand if you ask me.

I had the easiest RMA for a faulty SN750. Chatted with an agent, he affirmed how to submit, I showed proof of the bad sectors, and I had my replacement in 2 weeks. I understand we all have different experiences, so that sucks for you, I'm sorry. But the all-caps is blinding lol. And it looks like their response on BBB confirmed they gave you the RMA opportunity, and then gave you yet another chance. You can't expect them to do a data recovery for you, and this easily was the fault of the disk subsystem or OS driver, and not their hardware, yet they were willing to take it back.

I believe Western Digital only has the WD Red and not the WD Red Plus. Model number from Amazon:
WD60EFZX

Model number from WD:
WD60EFAX

WD's lines up with the SMR version of the disk, where as the Amazon version is the CMR. If I've done my research properly, CMR is superior due to the faster write speeds.

Also got 15% back at Rkuten
