Sage advice for an adult. Problem is those of us with kids (and hopeless wives), it somehow becomes untenable to manage the simple task of re-charging / swapping said batteries. And silly things happen like throwing away the rechargeable batteries. Or being in a rush and putting in normal batteries to replace. Then the rechargeables end up getting put in some random device that never gets used and 2-3 years later you find "oh that's were my nice eneloops went". Sigh.

This is a dedicated kid/idiot proof solution. I like it for that reason. In for one.

A pack of 4 Eneloop rechargable batteries does the same thing as this costs about the same, last longer, can be recharged more times and can be used for other devices such as thermostats, remotes, etc... I bought 8 batteries so I always have 2-4 batteries fully charged at all times while they get shuffled around all my devices

Best part is you never stop playing, you don't need a second controller and your always wireless because you always have an extra set of batteries charging and gets fully charged long before the set on the controller runs out of juice.

I average about 12+ hrs on a full charge (never kept track but it takes me about 2-3 days of long gaming sessions before it runs out).

Great price! They have a few open box ones with an additional 20% off. Picked one up for $12 and some change.

This is what I do as well (Thanks IKEA Ladda Batteries). The only advantage this has is that it's a place to always put your controllers and you never "fiddle" with batteries. That being said, it seems like the slicker deal to me is simple rechargeable batteries that can be used on other things too.

I have this and it works well. I got it on clearance from Target for $16.99. I like the ease of it. You don't have to keep taking batteries out of the controller. Just drop the controller into the charging bay. It comes with 4 battery doors and works on both Xbox series X and Xbox 1.

I use Eneloops in lots of things as well. For my Xbox controller I prefer to use rechargeable lithium ion batteries (I have a 4-pack of the kind that you recharge by plugging a micro-USB cable directly into the battery). I prefer these because you get a constant 1.5v output from them so the controller is always operating with peak performance, versus the 1.2v nominal output of NiMH batteries.

That said, I've tried NiMH batteries in my Xbox controller and it's worth trying them out if you have some to see how it suits you.

I own the black for the xbox one generation and the white for the series generation. Basically the difference is the battery doors You receive. Friendly heads up! I have not gotten 6 hours of play from a single charge. I've been using the xbox stereo headset during this time which obviously uses battery. I just got the new MS wireless headset so I'm now testing what kind of play I get on a single charge.

There are some pretty terrible design flaws in my experience. Take a controller from the dock that is fully charged and remove it. Place it back on the dock right away. The charge process will start all over. As if the battery lost its memory. I'm sure there are better options out there. Some people just focus on the fact that they don't have to constantly replace batteries so they consider this dock a WIN.

Fiddling with batteries takes slightly longer than throwing your controller into this but you can go to sleep without having to get up and put your controller to charge. then when you wake up energized and ready to go you just pick up where you left off without having to get out of bed to pickup the controller from the charging station because you just swapped out the batteries when your controller was either dead or low on juice and kept on going. That alone is another reason to just use batteries.

That's an excellent point. I just ask my wife to leave any batteries she removes in one place and then charge them up when I go by them next. It's still an evolving system, but I can completely appreciate having a simple solution for kids.

If I may ask...

- what battery charger do you use
- do you keep the batteries in the charger until the other set dies or do you take them out when fully charged
- how often do you play

I have multiple sets of eneloop but have kids that I'm not sure would be able to change the batteries on their own or would put the batteries in the right spot once drained of juice.

I have an Energizer dock that the contacts are wearing out or just not working anymore as I have to fiddle with it to get it to charge.

I have this from the previous gen. However the battery doors are different this gen. Any way to get just the battery doors? Seems such a waste to throw away a perfectly fine docking station.

Does anyone know of a charging station that lets you charge both a PS5 and Series X controller? One that's actual good quality.
