USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 all mean 5 Gbps (~625 MB/s). Kind of a moot point since the mechanical disks themselves top out at ~125 MB/s (1 Gbps).

Easystore, Elements, Black and Passport portables all use the same underlying 2.5" SMR drives. Difference is mostly chassis and features.

Elements: absolute basic drives, pre-formatted NTFS iirc, Easystore is just the Best Buy branded version

Passport: has hardware encryption and password protection, pre-formatted NTFS

Passport Ultra: same as Passport but with USB-C connector instead of microUSB

WD_BLACK: basic drive in nice metal chassis, pre-formatted exFAT

I prefer the WD_BLACK line since those have better heat dissipation.

As for reliability, all drives can fail at any time. I've got a couple boxes of dead WD, Seagate, Hitachi and Toshiba at my office so I don't have any brand loyalty whatsoever. If data is important, you should have a backup (3-2-1 rule).

I ended up getting it from WD store online. Free shipping, R a k u t e n offers 15% cash back, and they also accept PayPal which I have Chase freedom card for 5%. They also offer 15% recycle program but I got nothing to recycle.

Edit: Woah, got $15 cash back already!

great each person for there own i have had that seen a deal and great offer but you have stuff that save you more and go with that

The underlying drives kinda are the same. They just vary in features.

1TB/platter, 5400RPM, 128MB cache, USB 3.0 interface, Advanced Format, Shingled Magnetic Recording, 15mm z-height

This is what my WD_BLACK P10 5TB has (purchased a few months ago from Newegg):
WD50NMZW-xxLG6Sx/xxA8NSx 5TB (5/10)

This is what my WD easystore 5TB has (purchased early this week from Best Buy):
WD50NDZW-xxMR8Sx/xxA8JSx 5TB (5/10)

Interestingly enough, the D instead of M supposedly means it has AES-256 self-encryption support.

The only other 5TB models are the following but both are supposed to have USB-C connector as denoted by the M suffix (W is microUSB):
WD50NMZM-xxHZKSx 5TB (5/10)
WD50NDZM-xxPW8Sx 5TB (5/10)
