DO NOT BUY the GL-MT1300 that is being mentioned by some below if you plan on connecting to an EAP network. This is a network that one would usually find at work and requires a Username and Password to be entered. I could see this being an issue at some hotels, etc too.

I've had GL-MT1300 router for months and have found no way around this issue, but I'm not that much of a techy, but I did at one point find on their website that the GL-MT1300 and a couple of other routers they sell do not support EAP.

If someone knows how to get this to work, I'm all ears!

I now also have a GL.iNet GL-AR750 which does support EAP.

I'm not sure how it compares to this router.

All models are supported EAP EXCEPT GL-MT300N-V2, microuter-N300, GL-MT1300: https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/tutorials/eap/

Because VPN is just one of the use case. Someone already mention some hotel limit certain number of device per room so can use that to get around it if your family have many devices that need internet connection.

Also, someone mentioned they travel often with family, and travel router make the trip easier. For example, a family may travel with phones, tablets, laptop, Kindle, etc, If that's you, you'll also know that setting them all up on hotel Wi-Fi is a bit of a pain. And this travel router make this much easier.

If the router has an Ethernet port, it can turn a wired internet connection into a wireless one. Travel routers can create a shared network between your connected devices, and this router has a USB port that you can use with a flash drive full of media content.

And if you are doing all these and you also use VPN, may as well set it up on the travel router so every devices can use it.

Can i change this routers TTL to 65 to bypass hotspot speed limits?

Edit: yes you can
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING 1 -j TTL --ttl-set 65

Looks like the newer version GL.iNet GL-MT1300 also onsale for $89.9 - 25% coupon = $67.42

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MKZXGBY

For those need a faster connection and prefer USB-C power/512GB Max MicroSD/etc instead of MicroUSB power/128GB Max MicroSD/etc.
GL.iNet GL-MT1300 (Beryl) VPN Secure Travel Gigabit Wireless Router, AC1300 400Mbps (2.4GHz) + 867Mbps (5GHz) Wi-Fi, Pocket-Sized Hotspot, IPv6, Tor, MicroSD Slot, USB3.0 for Wi-Fi Repeater
Not the recent lowest price but pretty close.
I can confirm this works. Great for bypassing Visible network's 5mbps cap on tethering.

This is a great router and much better than the Creta model. These routers are fantastic for daily home use, RV, coffee shops, hotels when traveling.

These Gl.inet routers are super cool. I have a GL-B1300 and there's so much untapped potential for me in the firmware and stuff. I have no idea how to fully take advantage of it all, but it does the basics for me pretty well when I need a simple travel router.

Thanks, I got one!

Been wanting to upgrade my Ar300M and mt300a both have served me wonderfully. It's time for an upgrade.

Almost want to get two so that one can stay home to be the wireguard server. Decisions, decisions.

Is this a worthy backup at this price if one already owns the GL-MT1300? I know this one also has a slightly more compact form factor compared to the GL-MT1300.

Nope, there is no 4G LTE/5G mobile modem built-in, there is no sense, unless USB connects to your cellphone
I plan on tethering this router off of my cellphone's hotspot
