There's a bunch of people in this thread, who are not the target audience for this product. Just because it's on sale, you don't have to buy it or justify it or make a case for/against it. Be happy with what you have (e.g., smart TV interface, FireTV, Google TV, etc) and let others enjoy their choice. I despise all Smart TV UI (Samsung, LG, RokuTV, Google TV) and no amount of money or "superior features" will make me use them. I switch back to that interface once in a while to update firmware, etc, but that's it. If that's the opposite of what you do, then great. Just don't treat your use case as the gospel truth.

No what you are linking is the 1ST generation model which came out in 2017

For $20 more you can get the 2ND generation model which came out in 2021

Well worth the $20

Basically it just has a better interface and integrates with other Apple stuff seamlessly (can use AirPods with spatial audio, HomeKit camera Picture in Picture). Also, it serves as a HomeKit Thread border router but so do HomePod minis.
Actually no. The Built in Apple TV app do not have the performance in terms of the picture quality or sound quality of this Apple 4k unit , especially if you have Dolby Atmos speakers

This was $80 at Walmart like a month ago and can be found on eBay for roughly that price.

What is the value proposition here if you already have a 4K TV with Apple TV app installed?
This is one of the best streaming devices out there. It has several apps available. The Apple TV app on your smart tv is just for the Apple TV content.

Wouldn't it depend on the TV model? According to Dolby the Apple TV app has Vision and Atmos support. https://www.dolby.com/movies-tv/apple-tv-app/

Is this the best deal ever on Apple TV 4K new gen?
No, the Target/BestBuy gift card + $50 apple gift card back.

Buy $100 apple gift card from BestBuy/Target and get a $15 BestBuy/Target gift card. So $200 apple gift card and $30 in BB/Target gift card. Use the $200 Apple gift card to buy the Apple TV from Apple starting Friday, and get a $50 apple gift card. In the end, will have $30 BB/Target gift card and $50 apple gift card. Will be like getting the Apple TV for $100/$120 for 32/64GB.

For $10 extra, definitely get the 64GB version.

Besides what the other poster said, you can use Apple Fitness with these.

LG smart TV's Apple TV app definitely supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, so genuinely curious why else I might get this?

Sounds like AirPods and HomeKit compatibility might move the needle for folks who need those features

To add to what has been said already, for digital movies this is an optimal way to view iTunes Extras on a 4K TV. (All Apple TV apps on any 4K TV do not allow iTunes Extras to be played within the app.) Without Apple TV 4K, to see iTunes Extras, you would have to either: a) hook up a laptop/Macbook HDMI to your TV and run iTunes, b) use AirPlay and stream the content from your Apple device (iPhone, iPad, etc.) to a 4K TV.
