mine get here tomorrow from the previous posting last week. from reading the reviews they dont give off 'light'. so, i was thinking about getting a couple of those basic white ceramic fixtures and wiring a cord with a plug. something like this

Agree. I have a couple and they don't put out any substantial light. Any decent fixture that shows off the bulb should be good

I got one the last time they went on sale, while they do look good in the right fixture. Be warned, it's not that these produce a low level of light in comparison to a standard light bulb. These provide virtually no light what so ever.

Can the lights color be manipulated to be say amber only, or other color choices? Or are they stuck to one?

I bought two of these lamps and am sending them back since they are so dim they are useless as a lamp. The image is also static. Very disappointing. Not recommended

It sounds like it is not even bright enough as a night light

It's decorative lighting. Not lighting to see by.
