Wow, what a deal!

I've been hemming and hawing whether to get the Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus, the Lenovo 10e or the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 4gb version.

The only thing that originally stopped me with the Lenovo 10e was the terribly bad speakers. But at this price point, I'll deal with it. I have plenty of other devices around the house (including other PCs, tablets, phones and bluetooth speakers) if I wish to play something at a loud volume.

Here is my brief analysis should this help anyone in the same boat.

* The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is 8.4" and arguably is easier to handle than the 10" Fire HD 10 and Lenovo 10e. But the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite uses a crappy 1340x800 resolution with poor viewing angles. Buyer beware that the A7 Lite does have a 3GB RAM variant as well.

* Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus (the 4GB RAM variant) was really, really tempting especially considering one can use Fire Toolbox to remove the ads & bloatware, sideload Google Play Store, and sideload a custom launcher.

* BUT Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus uses Android 9 as the underlying OS (already out of date considering Android 12 just came out). Not to mention Amazon is releasing a new (currently optional) OS update to version 7.3.3.2 that prevents Fire Toolbox from being able to do its thing. Not sure how I feel about being forever stuck on a previous version of an already outdated OS.

* I've read that the Lenovo 10e's ChromeOS is a bit hit-or-miss compared to Android (especially with app compatibility) but we shall see. I don't really do much on my current tablets besides catching up on news, perusing Reddit & Slickdeals and occasionally watching a show or TV on it.

As much as a good deal it is, id rather go with the Amazon Fire HD Plus, just based on the added storage option, especially with the firebox tool to 'unlock' it.

What's the USB-C port good for here? Can I add additional storage?

Bought it because its only $79 and didn't even watch any reviews. Can this play anime on a browser at least? Also can you sideload on chromebooks?
Yes, streaming services, Plex, and anything else you typically do in a browser will be fine. You can sideload Android apps in developer mode (page 26 of https://download.lenovo.com/consu...hmm_v2.pdf has instructions).

I think 32 gb and no expansion slot might be a deal killer for media consumption.

Tough to imagine how much more utility I'd get out of this compared to my old fire hd 10.

Thank you. Got one. Also got the keyboard case from Lenovo for $30. Don't forget R cashback and chase freedom PayPal 5 percent back.

Charging an/or connecting a hub for peripherals like keyboards and mice. You can use USB drives with a hub, but it's not really great for expanding the available storage.

Price is right, but since this is made to be a more kid-resistant tablet, it seems like it'd be pretty bulky once you add a case (extra $30, from Lenovo).

I don't think it's a terrible deal but I feel like there must be a sleeker "standard" Chromebook out there for close to the $110 total price (tablet+folio).

Maybe I'm wrong, Chromebooks have gotten awfully expensive over the years. Most of the "good" ones are the same price as a sale-priced standard laptop.

Any thoughts on a sub-$150 standard Chromebooks this BF/CM?

So far the best deal for me is Lenovo P11 Plus if you have perksatworks or employee account.
Its showing for $179 and main pros are :
  • Android 11
  • High end processor
  • Bigger screen with 2k resolution
  • expandable storage
  • quad speakers / optional pen support

In for one as I've been wanting to try a Chromebook but not 720p screen ones. I also found a seller on eBay with more than 10 available of the official folio keyboard case for under $30 so i ordered one. There is an Amex eBay $5 back for $15 or more purchase.

Even at this price, hard pass.

Only one USB port doing double duty for charging, so have to spend more for a hub to attach anything.

It won't even stand up on it's own out of the box, so spend more for a stand or whatnot.

No keyboard on a Chromebook, no thanks.
