Is the RAM upgradable, does anyone know if it's soldered? Also, how is HPs "accidental protection" plan, is it worth getting since this laptop will be for an 8 year old?

functionality of backlit kb far outweighs color preference.

Is a touch screen helpful? And will 12 gb of ram be enough? I never use more than 9.
Should I get the 16 gb ram option for $50, or spend $55 and get this:

Also, spend the extra $20 for the Realtek Wi-Fi 5 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 Combo?

Not an expert, but the passmark for that processor is super low so it suffers when using multi core apps compared to modern CPUs. (Think it's one of the i3 CPUs without extra cores. The i3s that have enough cores for modern multi core software end in numbers above 25 iirc.)

I just bought one for my 7yo who is a really great kid tbh, it came out to $418 with tax. I forgot that fast, but I believe the only upgrades that I did were for the better screen and backlit keyboard. Lol I'm hoping that this suffices for his light gaming needs.

WiFi 5 already outdated. Better to buy WiFi 6 card separately for $20 and put it in, but haven't looked into how easy it is to get the back lid off (i dislike the kind I have to pry open as I invariably break off some of the plastic retaining clips and leave a small dent where I initially started to pry it open).

It is a modern processor, it just happens to have 2c/4t and it rips when dealing with thise lighter loads.

Tempted to rebuy 3 laptops from the recent early BF Walmart deal. Not sure how this AMD chip compares to i5-1135G7, but I can basically get same price with an IPS panel. Not thrilled about HP return policy with restocking fees, though slim chance that will be needed.
