Great deal tbh, probably the best deal with a 5500U, compared to the other i3/i5 and even i7 deals, 5500U almost always comes out on top.
2 RAM slots, replaceable NVME and WiFi card, FHD IPS screen
only downside is the not so great battery size and probably not so great build quality.

but for sub-400, this is a no-brainer and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, especially if you take the 2x8GB 3200 RAM upgrade.

just wish other retails can price match on specific builds.

Ryzen 7 5700U is an option for an additional $90, didn't check the benchmarks to compare, but the Ryzen 5 5500U is probably fine for most people...

That's the name of the integrated graphics chip on this APU, It's not trying to mislead anyone.

Anyone had cancellation experience with HP? I placed an order last night, and tried to cancel with chat. Said no guarantee but they can put in a request.

Spoke with chat - got another $25 off.

Total was $375

Modifications I made were

Silver (-10)

Backlit KB (+30)

256gb HD (+20)

IPS 1080P non touchscreen (+10)

Would note I never use touchscreens on laptops so that wasn't a concern for me and regular screen is anti-glare.

Also bought the Target $280 for wife and was going to get the Walmart MSI for myself but they canceled the order (very frustrating). Was thinking about taking ram out from here and installing that and a 1tb nvme in wife laptop (where the slot is open), and installing more ram in this one and keeping the 256. I just wanted the MSI cause of build quality but hopefully this holds up. Deciding how much ram to add to both laptops, definitely a minimum of 16gb to both but debating 32 for this. Thanks for the nvme link above poster!

Does anyone know how ryzen and videocard work with ram? Does more ram help the video card?
So actually ended up cancelling and reordering with smaller SSD ($385 total), given if I am going to open the computer once for ram might as well stick a bigger SSD inside and this is more cost effective vs ordering via hp. Also used costco card for warranty.

Trying to decide between the Samsung, WD, and SK Hynix SSDs… apparently SK Hynix runs coolest.

I did online chat with an agent. Agent placed an order for me (PayPal order. I had to login to PayPal to confirm) after I opened hp.com account and added laptop to the cart after customizations.

Can you please explain how you got the $25 OFF?

I placed my order a couple of hours ago but maybe they can look at the order and do an adjustment. If you could please share or PM me about it that would be great.

I just got it. My opening message was "Thinking about buying HP Laptop - 15z-ef2000 that's in my cart, but my welcome newsletter promo code hasn't arrived yet"

They then asked to provide an e-mail address and for access to my cart. I told them which specs I wanted & that I wanted to apply a $25 newsletter sign up coupon but it hadn't arrived yet. She put together the order and told me but she can take $25 off if I buy it right now by e-mailing me a payment link. I said yes but also that I wanted to check out via Paypal -- FYI she thanked me for clarifying because PayPal requires a 'different' link. Within a few seconds, I received a link from Paypal thru my e-mail, and I checked out via Paypal.

GL ALL. It is like pulling teeth. My rep got the specs wrong the first time, and we had to redo the entire process. Before they send you the payment link, ask them to repeat all the specifications back to you! Go line by line. I did not notice that they got color & backlit keyboard wrong because I didn't ask them to parrot the specs back to me even though I had listed them all out at the very beginning of the chat.

What were the specs you went with? Going to try to replicate. I still have the Target i3 deal unopened, was thinking about grabbing the 4GB Ram stick for $20 from Amazon, but might be better off with this deal.
Im no expert but.. silver, 8g RAM (I figured if I needed more Id modify then, 8g should be good for basic use), 256 SSD, and to get it above $369 went for touchscreen 1920x1080p, came to $399, he then took $25 off. But before I attempted to order I created a NEW account with HP.com and opted to receive their newsletter, these steps are required. You then are to get a coupon via email to be used towards next purchase after create the account.

RAM is likened to work area. Where as SSD is warehouse/storage area. CPU and GPU are workers. You need adequate work space to allow to better workflow. Space for raw material (data), workers, freshly completely product.

1. Good CPU would be able to utilize workspace better and be more productive. Integrated GPU comes with the CPU uses (shared RAM), as work area. Without sufficient amount of RAM (the workflow) would be slower.

2.Dedicated GPU has their own memory, workspace, leaving all the RAM to CPU.

For this laptop without a dedicated GPU, we're looking at scenario #1. All iCore, Ryzen CPU benefits from more RAM. The better the CPU, the better value from performance by upgrading RAM.
